Distance, Light and Sky are: Chris Eckman (The Walkabouts, Dirtmusic), Chantal Acda (Isbells, Sleepingdog) and Eric Thielemans (EARR ensemble).

"Distance, Light & Sky" - Not the title of a post new-age novel, nor the christmas wishes of some purple haired granny after a wizardly seasoned apple cake, nope. Chantal, Chris and Eric (we might as well get familiar right away) are happily lost together in this surrealistic menage a trois. Picture a carpet in some West-African nomad's tent or no, even better imagine that we see our 3 heroes picturing themselves on that imaginary carpet sharing stories, songs, visions and dance (one can always dream). To celebrate the moment and all those many moments and heroes before and after who are and were and will be there to celebrate many more moments and this we hope ad infinitum. Yes dear reader (are you still there?) - this is serious business! Therefore we must keep things light.

In a world on fire our 3 heroes decided to step down and become Distance, Light and Sky. Coming together through a desire to build and share an imaginative space for their songs and sounds, where there is a place to connect to a world family of storytellers, singers, griots, shamans, preachers, fools and players a space where time is never only now but past and future together in that now from that space now they are happy to present Casting Nets. Their first album. Recorded at Sono Studios near Prague during the spring of 2014, together with the kindred spirit and good soul Phill Brown behind the studio cockpit, this album came about like a spring breeze. Effortless (well, except for too many weird Czech greek salads and Schnitzels), graceful, as a result of a gentle sharing mood and generous spirits.

Here's a re-rub I did using a wicked funk beat from Cameo as a backbone & the main hooks from DJ Vadim ft Zion I's - Got to Rock acapella. I beefed up the bass, Drums and added additional synth elements & FX. This all makes for a nice party break aimed to set off  today's dance floors. This one has been setting it off in my DJ sets and been getting good feedback from working DJ's such as DJ Slynk, Fort Knox Five, Stickybuds to name a few... This sees the long awaited return of Parker to his spiritual home at Jalapeno. And he hasn’t come empty handed as he brings a brand new 3 track EP – Aqua Dust.

Breakbeat heads will of course be familiar with the Bristolian DJ/Producer due to support from Radio 1, 1Xtra, Kiss, 6Music and XFM and his releases on discerning breaks labels Goodgroove and Bombstrikes. Jalapeno fans remember him as one half of label favourites The Beekeepers with his compadre Boca45. Since he was last Beekeeping he’s been keeping busy with his hot new Neuropol project releasing on Shogun Audio and Cosmic Bridge before coming home to Jalapeno with a clutch of fresh Parker beats.

Aqua Dust is a piece of instrumental hip hop reminiscent of the glory days of RJD2. Horn hits and vocal snaps adorn the heavy hitting beat as it drives through luscious strings samples and dream like bars. Channelling elements of Bristol’s dusty trip hop scene it’s one for the diggers and hip hoppers who like their beats underground.

Work It - This joint is a favourite in the hipster section of the pub. Digging up a more 70’s French theme that will make your moustache drip with excitement. Steve Bird AKA Mr Bird is a musician, producer & DJ, based in Lisbon, Portugal, for 15 years now. Mr Bird has released 4 albums and many other digital releases, including the album 'Low-Fi Classics' which was released by BBE Music in July 2014. A collaboration with singer Greg Blackman, it received strong support from radio and DJs worldwide, including Craig Charles on his Funk and Soul Show, and tracks from the album have recently been remixed by Tom Moulton and Ashley Beedle and released on vinyl with the Ramrock Blue label.


In 2013, he released the 3rd Mr Bird LP, imaginatively titled "Bird Bird Bird" on the Vital Force label. He also released two 7" singles on Resense Records and Lisboa Records with Portuguese producer Dedy Dread, as well as 5 vinyl releases on the Heavy Duty Booty label and several digital releases on his own 'Fat Bird Sounds' label.


in 2001 & 2007 Mr Bird released 2 instrumental hip-hop albums on the Brighton based labels 'Hertz Recordings' and 'Frequent Soundz.'

Back in 2001 he was invited to record a session for DJ John Peel at the BBC Maida Vale Studios, which was broadcast twice in 2002.
Mr Bird is currently in demand as a re-mixer, having remixed over 100 artists & bands including Daytoner, Karthala 72, Lee Fields, Dalindeo, Renegades of Jazz, Captain Planet, Savages, Odyssey and many more. He is currently working on several new musical projects, singers & collaborators world-wide.
