A driving, 70s jazz-rock-disco inspired work-out from the Marxist Love Disco Ensemble. ‘Material’ is the second single to be taken from their forthcoming album, ‘MLDE’. Building from the bass-guitar intro, it introduces a Moog, a haunting Arp Solina string machine, live percussion, and layered glazed vocal arrangements, invoking elements of Gino Soccio as it escalates. The song explores aspects of dialectical materialism and revolution, all shrouded in the format of a bonafide club dancer.

‘Vibe Sharp’ is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming album, ‘The Globeflower Masters Vol.2’. Glenn and Mark have crafted a rich tapestry of cinematic funk and European Library music. Inspired by such luminaries as Roger Webb, Stefano Torossi, David Axelrod & Serge Gainsbourg. 

‘Vibe Sharp’ is the perfect introduction to what people can expect from the album. Glenn has often said “The image in my head when I listen to our music is of driving a car through the Italian countryside, long roads, lined with cypress trees, creeping further and further towards the sunset”. 

This track, from a musical perspective, is the sound that best suits this image. Rolling drums, an antique Harpsichord and shimmering vibes, plucked 12 string guitar and looping bass all come together to create a sound which drives, but at a suitably relaxed speed to be able to watch the stunning landscape as it passes by.

Glenn Fallows & Mark Treffel - Vibe Sharp

The second single to come from the ‘The Globeflower Masters Vol.2’, and with a title such as 'Moogs Over Jupiter’ it’s not only literal, but also a jumping off point that enables Mark and Glenn's musical imagination to go wild. It takes the listener on a journey covering some distance – all the way to the moon! Not just any moon, but a moon orbiting the largest planet in our solar system, Jupiter. 

Mark’s Mini Moog and Jupiter 8 synthesiser are the stars of the show here, providing the perfect combination of depth and frequency to soundtrack their space-scape. Add to that some heavily effect-laden guitar from Glenn and the slow-but purposeful drive of the drums and Milo Fell’s percussion and we’re travelling without moving. 

The imagery of space travel echoes throughout this laid-back excursion. If a Moog pioneer such as Jean-Jacques Perrey had jammed with a contemporary, headsy beat-maker, the results may have been similar to this floaty as helium, cinematic, spacefaring jaunt.

Glenn Fallows & Mark Treffel - Moogs Over Jupiter

‘Glance’ is the second single to be taken from SOYUZ (COIO3) forthcoming album, ‘Force of the Wind’. It was the only song written between the sessions for the band’s previous album ‘II’ and ‘Force of the Wind’ that made it to the album in its original form. 

It’s a song inspired by measured life in the low-rise and village-like Minsk, which is the band's composer Aleksey Chumak’s hometown. It references Lo Borges' debut album and the work of Burnier e Cartier. Breezy as a summer east wind, gentle Fender Rhodes swirl, guitars sway whilst Alex's gentle ethereal vocals surf the bassline. Over too soon and akin to waking up and trying to remember a dream, the images of the song tickle away leaving you wanting more.

SOYUZ (СОЮЗ) - Glance (Мгновение)

Sounding simultaneously from the past, the present, and the future, the debut album 'MLDE' by Marxist Love Disco Ensemble seeks to eradicate both the trite from disco and the sobriety from political music. Half poetic, half tongue-in-cheek, this stunning compact eight-track album is influenced by Eastern European and Mediterranean 70s disco records. In the words of band member Paolo, ''it was written in response to hearing 'I love America' by Patrick Juvet. The song prompted the question: why does disco, a genre originally created by oppressed minorities, eventually become synonymous with Western capitalist excess?" MLDE seeks to break this connection.

Merging disco, post-disco 80s pop, and boogie into the fold, 'MLDE' was recorded using only analogue instruments, giving it warmth and space. Recorded on cassette, ½ inch tape, this gives moments of lo-fi abstraction between the beats of an aggressive, tight drum kit. Instruments used for this recording range from saxophone, trumpet, harpsichord, guitar, and rare analogue synthesisers. The bass sound is shaped by early 80s boogie records, whilst the influence of artists such as Hamlet Minassian can be heard in some of MLDE's more driving-disco outings, such as 'Hues of Red'. In the tradition of Soviet vocal group records, which the band has studied, some songs are sung by a vocal quartet in homage to this tradition. 

Tracks such as '1905' and 'Brumaire' have a greater pop aesthetic, with Paolo's vocal style on these more pop-driven songs evoking early 80s bands such as Orange Juice and Chas Jankel. 

The format and message of pop and disco are commonly viewed just to entertain and move bodies around a dancefloor; however, lyrically, the subjects range from dialectical and historical materialism, class struggle, Marxist theory and praxis, as well as the concept of Marxist disco music. 

Adding the icing to the cake, mastering don Joker aka Liam McLean dusted the album with his magic, giving the songs space where the room is needed, as well as the kick and punch demanded by the modern dancefloor.

Curating and ordering the tracks for a Mr Bongo Record Club is always special. You’re reminded of the feelings you had when sitting at home with a cassette player on pause trying to compile the perfect mixtape to impress the latest object of your affection, or that friend with whom you share a musical kinship and spark off each other’s latest discoveries. Hearing old tracks for the first time or diving into the most upfront selections keeps the fires burning and passions alight. 

Here, for volume six, we present recent finds and treasured classics from Brazil, Sweden, the USA, South Africa, Portugal, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago, and Canada. We have included selections by the Brazilian rising star Dora Morelenbaum as well as from heritage-Brazilian musicians and vocalists Haréton Salvanini, Copa 7, and Mirna. There’s also the wonderful Brazilian-not-Brazilian take of 'Ye Me Le' by Hazel Scott And The Braza Brasil, plus sublime gospel from the New York Community Choir. We’ve picked disco and soul rarities by General Lee and Ash Soul, Inc., and for the first time on vinyl, an incredible psych-pop song by the illustrious Matthew Tavares. There are cuts from some of our favourite contemporary Swedish musicians, Sven Wunder and Dina Ögon too. This compilation is packed full of gems that are plucked from differing times and spaces, but somehow all gel together beautifully. We hope you love them too.

 <b>Memoosh’</b> is the collaborative project between William Yates (@memotone) and Soroosh Khavari (@Soosh).&#13;
Without any pre-planning, the project started to grow and develop a life of its own as soon as the first session started. Over the course of more than eight weekends spread over a year, the two visited each other for recording sessions, not relying on modern modes of communication. Making all the music in person to keep to the collaborative nature of the project, leaving more room for improvisation and opportunity to jam out all their ideas.&#13;
&#13;
The album is a mixture of live instrumentation (guitars, piano, cello, zither, drums, clarinet, synths and numerous others) coupled with effect boxes, samplers, vocals and field recordings, influenced by everything from random static and buzz, to a beautiful early morning rain or the bass thud of a closing door. The whole album being more an exploration of their approach rather than anything conceptually thematic, representing both characters and personalities in the music.&#13;

“To be honest, had we not been asked by Project Mooncircle to make the album we probably would never have met to make music. Thankfully they did ask! And it has been a very fruitful conquest. Not only has the album created music we are proud of, but in it’s construction it created a new and lasting friendship.“&#13;

‘Memoosh’ comes out worldwide on limited grey-marbled double vinyl, limited handmade and handpainted cassette edition (both including download code).&#13;

Neneh Cherry &amp; The Thing: Dream Baby Dream

Joao Gilberto's debut LP, 1959's Chega de Saudade, was one of the most important Bossa Nova recordings, and credited by many as the album that launched bossa nova as a major popular music genre.

The 15 songs songs add up to a surprisingly short playing time but introduce several of bossa nova's most beloved trademarks: breezy, soothing melodies and vocals; tight arrangements with seamless blends of clipped guitar strokes and light orchestration, and, of course, the Bossa Nova rhythm. The most popular of these songs - "Chega de Saudade" and "Desafinado" - had already been released as singles in 1958.
