Next up in our Record Club guest mix series is Project Gemini, aka Paul Osborne. Earlier this month we released his debut album 'The Children Of Scorpio'. The response to that release has been fantastic! Highly recommended for fans of European library music, acid folk, psych-funk, vintage soundtracks and the contemporary breaks scene. Paul has put together an enthralling mix that includes exclusive edits and reworks...

“I wanted to put together a mix that was focused on sounds, the things I hear on records that I aspire to when I’m working on my own recordings. Whether it be a raw nasty guitar, a heavy drum break, a beautiful melody or some kind of backwards tape wizardry, I like getting lost in the layers of a record and revelling in the emotional connection I get from the production and sonics of something. It’s not meant to be some super cool list of obscurities, rather just tracks (and artists) I love that I can get lost in and that make me want to plug in and play. As a thanks to everyone for their support for The Children Of Scorpio album I also thought it would be fun to throw in a couple of exclusive edits/reworkings of tracks from the album that I hope you’ll dig. Enjoy!”

Q: Thanks for your contribution to our mix series, how did you prepare for this mix, and how would you describe the eventual result?

A: Thank you for the invite! I usually prepare for a mix with 4-5 songs that i am really feeling at the moment and then try to build a mood around it. So this mix turned out to be a journey from jazz/fusion to ambient to balearic boogie with some obscurities in between – mostly japanese..

Q: Is there a record in the mix that you associate with a special story?

A: Definitely the yuri harada record. Its a yasuaki shimizu produced enka record. I was introduced to this record several years ago while in tokyo by austin who runs the incidental music label and the tone poem record store in portland. I was instantly blown away by that song! obvioulsy that record was impossible to get a hold of then. I assume since then some deadstock has appeared and i was able to get myself a copy via discogs.

Q: How do you dig for new music, and/or what kind of things arouse your interest in music?

A: These days mostly by listening to mixes and radio shows and the occasional visit in my local record store.
It can be really hard to describe what it is, one is looking for in music. Also, these things change over time. I would say “the unknown” and “the unexpected”, records that take you to places your mind has not been to before.

Q: One record you will never let go, and one that doesn’t want to leave your wantlist?

A: I moved flat recently and had to get rid of a lot of records which was not an easy thing. Now i don't plan to let go of any more records :)	
A record that doesn't want to leave my wantlist – probably some super rare italian library record or pretty much any tom wolgers release related record.

Q: Music bonds people. Any djs/projects/shops/etc.. you would like to shout out?

I want to give a shout out to M. August. Every single mix he does is a world of its own and an amazing musical journey from start to finish. You can find his mixes on soundcloud.
The before-mentioned Tone Poem record store is always a great source of inspiration! 
Also keep your eyes peeled for the next couple releases on our reissue label Edition Hawara later this year!

Hallooo Mix Series No.12 – Julian Horn

New Mutual Mix up on the cloud of sound! This one by our homie Olav Eggestøl, which is both managing releases and events for @mhostlikely as well as working full time as a producer and booker at Østre and Ekko in Bergen. 

Here's a few words he wrote about the mix:

"I recorded this in our studio in Bergen on a hazy, late and rainy Friday night. Most of the mix is under 110 BMP, and track selection from late 80s and mid 90s. A format I always like to challenge myself to do. I started out with reggae, dub and dancehall, and moved into street soul, hip hop and downtempo house. The overall idea for the mix was downtempo breaks and maybe a hidden theme of love. Hope you enjoy <3"

She's collected records since the '90s and DJed since the '00s. Renowned for her residency at Lot Radio (2016) and role at hi-fi club Public Records as head curator (2019), she's now studying sound as a healing modality.
