The long-awaited first official LP from Michigan-based producer Sango, North, will release digitally on Soulection July 23, 2013 with vinyl to follow. 

Sango’s North brings forth a new sound, one that pulls from soul, rnb, future bass, hip hop and  broken beat fusing them together with seamless vocals chops and grooves. North features collaborations from a diverse group of artists like Australia’s Ta-ku, cinematic downtempo producer Atu, nu-soul singer JMSN, story-telling rapper WALDO, newcomer vocalist Brea and Dpat who produced ‘Remember You’ for Wiz Khalifa and The Weeknd.

Following major worldwide support for his refixes, EP’s and beat tapes from the likes of Brownswood’s Gilles Peterson, KCRW’s Aaron Byrd, and Noisey (VICE) to name a few, Sango is poised to elevate the definition of what “future” music is. 

10+ casual releases later, North combines the best of Sango over the last few years into one seamless musical journey. North is a love story of two people, on a journey, who find better things in themselves when they are with each other. North in Hebrew as noted visually in the album art [that Sango designed himself], representing a sense of “heaven” or  “glory” are symbolic to Sango, as he sees everything he does an artist for the greater glory, the greater good, as something bigger than himself.

North will also be available on all primary digital markets such as iTunes, Juno, Amazon, Beatport, ect.

Late Night Tales: Bonobo (Sampler)

Featuring Ed Harcourt, the muse of this track is World War II Soviet sniper Roza Shanina. It's taken from Rae & Christian's forthcoming album 'Mercury Rising', released on Late Night Tales' new sub label "Night Time Stories" on 20th October 2013.

"While writing abstractly about love and loss and going to a club of an evening are all passable things to write songs about, sometimes you just want a folk-tinged ode to a Russian female sniper. Thankfully production duo Rae & Christian have delivered just that with their new single, The Ballad of Roza Shanina. Taken from their forthcoming third album, Mercury Rising – their first since 2001's Sleepwalking – it features the soft, crumpled croon of Ed Harcourt and is based on the life of Soviet sniper, Roza Shanina, who fought and died during World War II. Having put herself forward to serve her country following the death of three of her brothers in battle, she went on to become the first Soviet female sniper to be awarded the Order of Glory and died trying to shield a wounded soldier in 1945. It's this context that fuels the lilting strum of The Ballad, with Harcourt singing from the perspective of Shanina and a loved one, the chorus of "Over and over, I'll wait for you, my Roza, my Roza", mocked by the line that precedes it: "one day all the shooting stops...One day came too late for you and me".

Premiere: Mr. Scruff 'Render Me' Feat. Denis Jones

The Danish-born Berlin-based singer-songwriter Agnes Obel landed a pan-European hit with her disarmingly beautiful debut album ‘Philharmonics’. After seven weeks at #1 in Denmark and hitting the Top 10 in both France and the Netherlands, the deluxe double CD version of the album will be released in the UK on May 2nd on Play It Again Sam.

Entirely self-produced and performed, ‘Philharmonics’ opens with the instrumental piano piece ‘Falling, Catching’ which sets the tone for Obel’s classically inspired songwriting. The next track, ‘Riverside’, flows with a depth of emotion embedded with further character by Obel’s love of combining her sweet melodies with carefully considered lyrics that evoke the song’s innate sound. ‘Just So’ works a similar trick, its blend of melancholy and optimism perfectly encapsulated into the opening line ‘Black turns beat me bright.’ Elsewhere, with ‘On Powdered Ground’, ‘Brother Sparrow’ or her interpretation of John Cale’s ‘Close Watch’, she melds different moods and atmospheres, all indelibly linked by the brittle majesty of her music.

The deluxe edition of the album adds a second CD featuring six tracks recorded at Obel’s recent acclaimed residency of sold-out shows in Copenhagen and five instrumental piano performances.

As a child, Obel was subconsciously guided into music by the influence of her mother and father, who would play and listen to a blend of the classical greats, folk music like Jan Johansson and the timeless sounds of Roy Orbison. After discovering the likes of Portishead and Elliott Smith as a teenager, she began writing her own piano-based songs, but it wasn’t until she moved to Berlin in 2006 that she began recording an album.

Many of the songs on ‘Philharmonics’ have subconsciously found an audience through their use in film and television. ‘Just So’ soundtracked a Deutsch Telekom advert, which gave Obel the unusual combination of having a song that everyone knew while having almost no profile as an artist herself. But soon opportunities presented themselves and continue to do so. One of Obel’s earliest breaks came when three of her demos featured in cult director Thomas Vinterberg’s film Submarino – ‘Riverside’ earned her a Robert Award (Denmark’s equivalent of the Oscars) for Best Song of the Year. Her music also reached a bigger North American and international audience when ‘Riverside’ was used in Grey’s Anatomy.

iTunes extended Obel’s profile further by requesting an exclusive release of ‘Philharmonics’ and highlighting Obel on the home page of their North American website. The attention of the press has been consistently positive with Vogue and culture magazine Telerama producing in-depth features in France, while Obel will also feature in both the North American and European issues of TIME.
