"Starting Over" (demo v2)

Made and played by me on August 16 and September 12, 2024, using sounds e.g. from Yamaha Montage 8 (TX816 Electric Piano), Keyscape (Roland MKS-20 EP sound), Arturia Jup-8 V and UVI SonicPass (Emulator II, Marcato Strings sound).

Edited a little on September 12, 2024 (changed melody a bit & added and modified some chords, added some chorus etc.). Mastered with Ozone 11 on September 12, 2024.

I'm also working on an instrumentalized version. Also, this song could maybe use some lyrics, and it is still something I have to look into. All comments would be more than welcome, especially regarding the melody (it seems that good melodies are pretty challenging to develop).

As two sources of inspiration here I could name Luis Miguel's versions of the songs "Toda una vida" (by the great Osvaldo Farrés) and "Ese momento" (by the great Armando Manzanero).

A little good mood song. The music is again almost unplugged. Acoustic guitar, tongue drum, djembé, tambourine, shaker, triangle, clapping hands. Only bass & drums are plugged in.

The Gertrude Jekyll garden, near to Lindisfarne Castle is the focus of this track. Now owned by the National Trust, originally it was a walled garden that was first constructed by troops manning the castle, presumably as far back as the 1500s or 1600s, to grow food.

In 1902, the Country Life magazine founder and owner Edward Hudson took out a lease from the Crown on Lindisfarne Castle and commissioned his friend, the architect Edwin Lutyens, to transform the Castle into a holiday home in which Hudson could entertain during his summer visits.

In 1911, Hudson decided to restore the old walled garden to use as a place to enjoy. Lutyens brought in his regular collaborator, Gertrude Jekyll to undertake the design work

This track is now part of "The Pilgrims Way Project" exploring the history and natural world of Lindisfarne.

Instrumentation

Background

In my head I had the idea of trying to capture the feeling of guests of Hudson, (or modern day visitors) walking around the garden on a late Summer afternoon, possibly stopping to listen to the bees, busy at work, collecting honey.

The poem came out of that thought which then inspired the musical direction of the piece.

I imagined the first part, idyllic, tranquil, moving to section where you just focus in on the bees and everyday life slips away for a while. This is followed by a grander 'promenade ending', where I imagined Hudson's guests strolling around in the late afternoon sun.

Patrice5 (https://soundcloud.com/patrice55) and I are happy to present our opening track in a new collaborative concept album in progress, "Altitude". Patrice5 composed, mixed and recorded his part on 22 September 2025 in MAGIX, and I composed, mixed and recorded my part, improvising on Akai MPK mini keyboard connected to Logic Pro, in the evening of 29 September 2025. That same late evening, I also combined our two parts, arranged, mixed and recorded this collaborative track, and we release it today here on SoundCloud, in the late morning (in Europe) of 30 September 2025.

We invite you to join us in flying at high musical altitude, in this opening composition as well as in the whole album (to follow appearing here in the next days and weeks). Our  guiding, spontaneous and shared, inspiration has been a modern update of classical music reinterpreted by various synthesisers mostly but with rich arrangement with other virtual instruments, rhythms and sounds, in effect blending electronic and ambient dominant chord progressions and melodies with contemporary elements and arrangements along the style of symphonic space music, progressive house, melodic techno, soundscape, chillout, dance floor, and sometimes even jazz fusion. We hope you'll enjoy this kind of genre specific to us both in our mutually exalting collaborations.
