I managed to write this in half a day, which is practically a record for me. This song was intended to be reminiscent of The Steamworks Foundry, which includes quoting a bit of its theme in here. But this song is faster paced and really keeps the groove going as you fight your way through hordes of enemies!

Live at Current Nostalgia (November 23, 2024)

This song turned out to be quite epic in scope, easily being the second-longest song in the game behind the title theme! In many ways this song is composed in a similar style to the Slime Warrens, but better executed. I've really improved at music composition and arrangement in general since I started making Tower of the Immortal's OST, and I'm quite happy with how this one turned out! The middle section is a lovely change of pace that really makes you feel like you're on an epic adventure, yet it still fits in nicely with the rest of the song.

So there's a bit of backstory to this song. I actually did create a game that used this. The premise was that you would fight your way through a bunch of different levels in a hack n' slash manner like that of 2-D Legend of Zelda titles. The first nine levels contain a variety of different enemies, some of which are slimes of varying strengths. You have to kill all the enemies before you can proceed.

At the tenth level, you see this huge slime sleeping in a large room. You wake her up, and begin talking to her. She's cordial at first and appreciates having somebody to talk to, but then she notices that your clothes and weapons are covered in slime residue. Busted. She goes on a rampage and you have to defeat her to proceed. 

I originally planned to make this song a bit longer, but during playtesting I found that the length of the track was perfect for the actual match. It's exciting, and captures the whimsical nature of the fight really well.

I used the MMC5 expansion chip for this song, almost entirely for the backing bass.
