Fast rising star on the U.K. Folk/ Country scene, Emily Mae Winters has that rare quality in a singer that makes critics reach for the superlatives. Described as having a voice that “stops you in your tracks” and “arresting, enthralling, tantalising” by Americana UK, Emily combines straight-to-the-heart bittersweetness with her own unique passion and drama in performance.
A trained musical theatre performer turned Shakespearean actress, eventually Winters left the characters behind in favour of her guitar to tell her own stories through song. A self confessed ‘poetry geek’, growing up a fan of 19th Century romantic poetry and literature, Winters released her much awaited second album ‘High Romance’ in July 2019 which sits between the stormy seas of folk and country.

The record was produced by award winning London based Americana producer Matt Ingram at Urchin Studios (Florence and the Machine, Lucy Rose, Laura Marling, The Staves) Winters has received support from the BBC Country Show with Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 2 Folk Show & BBC Radio 2 Good Morning Sunday. The record reached No.3 in the iTunes Country Charts and was listed in Folk Radio UK’s Top Ten Albums of the Year leading to two sell out headline tours with her band and invitations to play a host of prestigious festivals. Winters very recently supported award winning Nashville artist Molly Tuttle on her U.K. tour.

Joe Innes & The Cavalcade are a post-Brexit indie-folk band from London led by singer/songwriter Joe Innes, whose masterfully offbeat and often irreverent songwriting has gained praise from national radio as well as online, being described as things like “a master of words” by This is Fake DIY and “just brilliant” by Tom Robinson on BBC6.

Joe Innes and the Cavalcade is a labour of love for the lead troubadour. Joe plays solo, but also formed the Cavalcade to be revolving door of musicians to perform with, and has recruited numerous talented musicians over time, including Zach Comtois, Britney Spears’s guitarist who Joe met while touring in Germany.

Their early releases were financed by Joe selling his comic book collection, and subsequent EP “Brian, I’m a Genius Too” was lauded by The Line of Best Fit amongst others for its masterful and confident melody. Then, following a European tour and numerous festivals spots, Joe and the band began work on their upcoming debut album – after a hugely successful crowd funding campaign raised a lot more money than selling comics did.

The new album is a stunningly poignant and relevant piece of work in these uncertain times. It is a document of Joe’s life as it currently is, on both a macro and micro scale. It’s about the artist’s relationships, his mental health and his experience, all framed by the political events of the past year – “it’s how I feel about where I am as a person, as a husband, and as a citizen of the UK in 2017”.

The new album ‘Foreign Domestic Policy’ comes out on the 26th May 2017. There will be a party.

Hattie Whitehead does not pull her punches. Raised on folk and jazz greats of the sixties and seventies, her smart lyrics and powerful, outspoken voice blend folk sensibilities with a modern sound shaped by her discovery of contemporary genres. 

Born into an artistic family, Hattie’s first three EPs have been endorsed by press and radio such as the iPaper, Songwriting Magazine, BBC Wales and London, with Jazzwise describing her in 2024 as “one of the greatest singers I have ever heard. Not just in vocal tone, range, accuracy, enunciation, and sheer confidence, but in interpretation.” 

On ‘Mechanism’ (November 2023), she dives into the experience of loss that permeates much of her material. Written in response to the loss of her mother, the songs explore her relationship with grief that is even more relevant in the post-pandemic world we live in today. 

Following her meeting and collaboration with producer John Reynolds (Sinead O’Connor), Autumn 2024 will see Hattie release her debut album. This record takes Hattie's unflinching honesty in songwriting and delves into existential themes of empowerment, family, womanhood and relationships with a tone of re-growth and optimism following a period of intense grieving.

Lindsay West is from all over the place, with a mother from Scotland, and a father from California, she was born in Barcelona, and she’s lived in Edinburgh, London, and Seville, the south of Spain. Wherever she goes, she gathers ideas, and loves learning about the musical traditions of each place she stays. Always mistaken for a pure-blooded American because of her accent, Lindsay wrote the song Night Train to explain her heritage, which sums it all up neatly in a few lines. She is not from one place, but from many, and over the years she has poured her feeling of never being quite rooted, or of searching for the feeling of belonging, into her songs. The sound of these stories has grown out of influences including the soul-bearing honesty of Joni Mitchell, the invention and fantastic melodic hooks of Kate Bush, and the realism and beautiful, plaintive vocals of Neil Young. Although her love for music started with these artists, as well as others who are not so recognisable in her own songs, Lindsay is constantly searching for new music to love, and over the years has gathered inspiration from the likes of female musicians including Cat Power, Feist, Laura Veirs, Sharon Van Etten, Regina Spektor, and My Brightest Diamond, among others.

Lindsay has been writing songs since she was about 14 and formed her first all female band in high school. When she lived in Edinburgh for 5 years as a student she began playing amongst the folk musicians and other songwriters there, and discovered how much fun it is to play and share music live and in a community. Back in London, she formed a duo with a fellow multi-instrumentalist, Dave Millar, to make Love.Stop.Repeat, who have enjoyed some success playing festivals across the UK, and who have been supported and encouraged by the likes of the Fence Collective over the years. She also collaborated with the Next Men to create a moody electronica track, ‘Burn’, and with electronic duo the Title Sequence for their single ‘Without a Love’. Lindsay also played for two years in the band Matthew and the Atlas, touring in Europe and the US and signing to Communion Records, before the band dissipated and she settled back into writing her own music. Now living between the UK and the south of Spain, Lindsay is focusing on writing and recording new material.
