Over the past 6 years WOLF Music have earned their stripes as stalwart purveyors of refined House and Disco. Now, in the follow up to Medlar and Greymatter’s debut LPs and EPs from the likes of Ishmael, Ossie and Casino Times they ready their 3rd LP from Dutchman Frits Wentink.

Now residing in Amsterdam, Frits has a glowing back catalogue of soulful, Lo Fi club material that’s touched Heist Recordings as well as WOLF in the form of his ‘Mouse’ and ‘Goose’ EPs. With an experimental approach to hardware and instrumentation, his work blooms naturally through jams and improv and in this - his debut LP: ‘Rarely Pure, Never Simple’ we see a development in this experimentation to enlivening effect.

Working with a meld of grubby samples, chunky percussion and the frequent vocal accompaniment of Utrecht based Loes Jongerling, Rarely Pure Never Simple is a journey through Frits’ influences forged into a cohesive pack of grooves and interludes tinged with a certain charming nostalgia.

It really feels like we (aka Mad Mats & Tooli) been around way longer than 5 ½ years with Local Talk but its really true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun! From what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. We really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the Local Talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. 

From our very first release with Bassfort’s excellent “Moon Shadow” in the summer of 2011 we had a crystal clear vision of what Local Talk should represent…house music in any way, shape or form! Over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, UK, Berlin, New Jersey, Detroit and of course Chicago inspired house music. If it made us bump…we put it out!

This brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. We thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 ½ years and immediately the image of Blaze classic album “25 Years Later” popped up. Besides the fact that its an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. Its not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. This fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we’ve tried to capture on our “5 ½ Years Later” compilation, split into two parts.

On part 1 you’ll find a dark bass-line driven house jam from Art Of Tones (check the mad sax!), a proper deep journey jam from NYCs DJ Spinna, a Blaze homage with that classic New Jersey sound from Sean McCabe, a bumpy world/jazz inspired cut straight outta Brescia from wonder kid Corrado Bucci.

Tartelet Records is 10. To celebrate a decade in the cut, they're out a home run of new material from label mainstays & fresh signings in 2018. To kick things off, the label is enormously proud to set free Endless Light –– a new record from Oakland newcomer Space Ghost.
Coming on like a brainchild to Dam Funk & Mutant Beat Dance, Ghost's sound falls off the shelf between a number of distinct reference points: Lone's early tropical synaesthetics; the modern funk of Funkosphere; the intimate tapes out of PPU. In a sea of Soundcloud copycats, he's a revelation.
Endless Light is a record with an open hand: an instantly appealing sound from a new producer with a highly-tuned ear. Born of his collection of antique synths & drum machines, the Space Ghost experience channels a deep heritage of 1980s funk minimalism & analogue boogie. Velvet pads, hood-rat sleaze & heaped spoonfuls of soul.    
				                                              											             Never overly reverential or nostalgic, the record looks forward to a strange, bright future. Its sweeping sci-fi synths & twinkling sound design recall Lone or Dorian Concept's first outings into cosmic psychedelia. "Cosmic Cave" packs enormous ambient vistas into a bejewelled miniature. Frosty interlude "After Hours While It Rains Outside" touch the same cold nerve as Vangelis on Blade Runner. The gently vocoded love jam "Strong Heart" could've even fallen out of the Stranger Things playbook.
And there's heat for the club too. Nearly all the low swung beaterludes pick up into skippy house sketches & loping dancefloor cuts. Rather than squeeze into club music's often taut wireframes, tracks like "Colour Waves" & "Following A Vision" dance effortlessly between time signatures. Cruising gems "Endless Light" & "Aquatic Speedway" even go full hilt into the lush domain of vintage Burrell Brothers productions.
Throughout, Space Ghost stands out from the mounds of music today defined by lo-fi aesthetics. These are twelve enchanting cuts from a producer who has barely pulled back the curtain on his prowess. Supreme tip for 2018.

Michele Manzo - Burning Chrome

Michele Manzo - musician and producer who boasts international collaborations with Omar Lye-Fook, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Declaime - is the man behind the second release of Angis Music, italian label curated by DJ Samuele Pagliai. The EP presents 3 different scenarios resulting from a spontaneous live session, which reflects the multiple influences and symphonic approach of an artist with various styles. This work, inspired by the science fiction novels of William Gibson - godfather of the cyberpunk genre - opens with the song “Burning Chrome”, conceived as a nighttime escape taking you at lightening speed through the alleys of a city that is galaxies away. Continuing on to the B side we have “Chiba City Park”, where the broken beat and abstract harmonies create an ambience similar to that of those in Neuromancer. Finally, “Nebula’s Grace” is a cosmic jam where time slowly floats away in dub echoes and disappears into the depth of space.

This year, all proceeds will be donated to the Natural Resources Defense Counsel, one of the world’s most effective environmental action organizations. 

Ho ho ho—Tartelet Records has once again reached into its secret stash of tricks and dug out some incredible gems. Following 2016’s compilation success with all proceeds sent to Syria’s White Helmets, the 2019 Christmas release has attracted an even broader spectrum of sound from nine of the label’s most honorable artists.  

Featuring Tartelet Records’ signature eclectic mix of genres, Christmas is saved with unreleased works by Wayne Snow and digitalluc, jitwam, Space Ghost, Glenn Astro, Kasper Marott, Verner, N.O.T.E, and label head Dirk 81. Each track has been handpicked by the artist themselves to represent their unique style in support of a bold charitable cause.  

This year, the Natural Resources Defense Counsel (NRDC) has been selected as the recipient of all proceeds. As one of the world’s most prominent environmental protection organizations, it strives to protect nature in ways that advance the long-term welfare of present and future generations. Tartelet Records is proud to support this important mission with its exclusive end-of-year release.
