Arrested Development

Mr. Jhak is the first emcee signed to Mr. Owl’s “Parliament of Strix” record label, and the Bodyslide Mixtape is Jhak’s first release.  Born and raised in Philly, and currently living in Los Angeles, he blends the east- and west-coast styles to make some of the realest underground hip-hop you’ll ever hear.  Jhak spits his intensely original rhyme style on twenty-one of his favorite borrowed instrumentals, and DJ Spaed cuts and blends all the tracks into a 54 minute set of continuous illness, never letting the groove stop.

If you read the descriptions of my songs, you'll often notice me mentioning how long it took me to write a song from start to finish. I think this might be the last time I mention it. I wanted to write a song from start to finish in 1 hour or less, and that's exactly what I did. I hope everyone enjoys it. It's not that complicated since it was only made in an hour, but I feel that there's an ample amount of instrument layers to make it a quality song. It's very feel good.

The Other Side Of The Fence

My third of the four Early Practice Session Mixes that I will be posting up before posting up new mixes. Started learning to beat mix. Did the club thing for just a little bit till I found out I can make more money DJing weddings, XV Anos and Corporate gigs. When I started the private party DJing, I kinda stopped beat mixing. Only practiced it a few times a year. My new mixes will be me getting back on the turntable saddles once again.

Back when I first started to learn to beat mix, I bought a Case Logic unit that held 30 cassettes. I told myself that I wanted to learn how to mix like the radio DJ's by the time I reached the 30th cassette. This is around the 20th or so practice session on mine. I can't tell you exactly which one cause my cassette player ate about 5 of my original practice sessions. From 12" vinyl albums the mix got recorded onto the cassettes. I recently archived my old mixes onto CD's. I made one set with no drop and one set of CD's in which I added a few drops here and there. 

Also. I did not practice every day. I practiced about every 1-3 months. I worked full time, owned a home and had a regular life. Only practiced mixing when I had to much stress in my life and wanted to think about nothing else but matching beats, bars, lines and lyrics. No teenager here locked in his room for hours at a time.
