Globally acclaimed talent Shingo Nakamura recently released his "Only Silk 02" compilation on parent label Silk Digital, featuring his original track "The Four". On Silk Royal's latest single, we're thrilled to present a new remix of this cut by Sundriver, another of our imprint's most decorated veterans. He has been writing euphoric, often Balearic-tinged progressive for the better part of a decade and looks forward to an exciting 2014, with several standout remixes arriving in the new few months alone. For the second track in the release, we've invited fellow progressive trance craftsman Talamanca, a first-time contributor to Silk, to remix Shingo's classic "Sapporo". Talamanca, like Sundriver, has enjoyed wonderful radio support in his career on some of the world's leading trance-centered radio shows.

Sundriver's remix of "The Four" asserts itself right out of the gate, with a driving rhythm, while uplifting pads and arps begin to infiltrate the mid-range. By the quarter turn, a symphony of melodic elements has conspired to overpower the listener with a lush and emotive soundscape. Yet, the track highlight does not occur until the break, when we are truly swept away by a light breakbeat, coupled with a mellifluous, Ibiza-influenced guitar riff. The stunning drop to follow features all of the melodic layers in harmonic unison.

Dutch talent Talamanca also starts his remix of "Sapporo" in driving fashion. We are soon met by several of the original's most memorable themes. Talamanca succeeds in making this interpretation his own by contributing numerous new variations on the lead motifs, all of which are truly breath-taking. In the main break, a powerful, trance-influenced lead is introduced, giving his take a bit of extra muscle for the dancefloor.

Moving on from their time holed up in a leisure resort relic, the Dutch retrogressive, analogue synth machine obsessives and tape fanatics Betonkust & Palmbomen II have teamed up together once more for a new EP. An immediate follow up to their debut LP Center Parcs, the new EP pays fictional homage to a now deceased famous TV star, who instead on working on the screen, took up a new direction in making music. Once more replete with esoteric experimentalism, analogue jams, drums machines, synths, and a healthy dose of acid basslines, the production duo advance upon their aesthetic with a new extended EP of nostalgic, melancholic electro.

With Palmbomen II a.k.a. Kai Hugo, based out and working in Los Angeles, collaborations with Dutch-based partner Betonkust happen less frequently than they should - especially when you acknowledge that they do not use, or record to computers. When they do happen though, their distinctive sonic palette of saturated distortion, and warm melodic wavey house shines through. This time recorded in a bungle somewhere in the Dutch countryside, the two producers have created a concept record about Bart, a local hero and his imagined life in a parallel universe. In this reality, instead of making it in TV, Bart is a successful music producer, the track titles detailing his journey through this new and imagined life. 'Bart Is Alone Again' kicks off the record with its wistful melodies, and harmonic leads, before 'Underground Dance Floor' kicks in with its predominate bassline, and squelching deep-rooted, undercurrents of hardcore. Along Bart’s odyssey there are moments for 'Bart's Jam', an early days Warp Records / Detroit belter; 'Rejected Demo Tape' a downbeat moment of anguish; ending with 'A Series of Bad Decisions,' in which the EP plays out to somber, yet harmonious conclusion.

A simple edit I made based on both versions of the instrumental by adding a longer intro, extending the break and giving some structure to the outro in order to make it easier to smoothly mix it in and out without having to loop the initial four bar intro.

Reinvigorating their collaborative partnership Dmitry Molosh and Michael A return to Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'Integral'. Hailing from Belarus, both Dmitry and Michael sit amongst progressive music's elite guard. Their respective solo productions continue to earn play and support from the genre's premiere tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while also landing them releases on Hope Recordings and Sudbeat Music. Also calling Replug a comfortable home, Dmitry and Michael now return to the label with their first collaborative project in almost four years.

Much loved for their exploration of all things progressive and groovy, the Belarus duo exceeds expectations here, delivering two stunning pieces of music beginning with the title selection 'Integral'. Set in motion by a warm, chunky foundation, its robust core comes up quickly, with layers of finely tuned drums, crunchy rhythms and squelchy synths uniting in a fiery sonic comet. Shifting energy into the main break, heartfelt harmonics and fragmented melodies gently blanket the electric underbelly, resonating on a higher frequency as tasteful modulation rises and the groove drops for a chugging finale.

Operating on a similar sonic plane is the companion piece 'Twelve Days'. Otherworldly in nature, tough beats and dark stabs anchor the journey as the piece flows through a series of pulsating rhythms and mind-bending effects. Continuing on an unpredictable storyboard, ominous overlays and percussive flashes highlight the first act, perfectly setting up an icy break. Adding further intrigue, a wave of tranquil arps provide an effervescent foundation for the duo's dystopian soundscapes, before building to a granular sizzle as a rush of drums ignites a powerful crescendo. It caps off a hugely successful project from two of progressive music's most talented artists, further solidifying Replug's place at the top of this burgeoning genre.

Frankey is the alias of Frank Beckers, also known as one half of the Berlin duo Frankey & Sandrino. They have notched up a series of stellar releases on labels such as Kompakt, Innervisions, Diynamic or their own label Sum over Histories - and Frankey now drops a his second release on Poker Flat Recordings - the fantastic Sing-EP. 
Utilising almost two decades of production experience, Sing is a supremely assured track - a thick, infectious groove exhibiting nuanced sound design while fragments of piano lead the subtle melodic development. It’s got class written all over it. 
Satellite is cut from the same cloth - Frankey’s attention to detail particularly in the mix makes for a dancefloor track that is both laser sharp and deeply affecting - the drums knock while the chords and effects take the track into space.

RJ Nu-Disco & Edits Mix October 2020

When it comes to Nu Disco, there is absolutely no doubt Spa In Disco is considered one of the most notable labels of the European scene. Now, the same competence big boss Fran Deeper (SXDNS189) has always used to curate his respected imprint will be put to good use in his new project: Boite Music aims to pursue a different sonority, influenced by the dark side of different kinds of electronic music, from peak time Indie Dance to obscure Synthwave or slow and deep Balearic chuggers. A fresh, serious, and modern approach to the club heart: The dance floor.

For the third release of the newcomer, Fran gathered an interesting line-up of artists: AINZ, Juan Soto, Tony Disco (SXDNS111), G. Zamora, and Lafrench Toast. We chose the latter’s contribution to review and couldn’t be any happier. The Colombian DJ and producer brought his House, Nu Disco, Alternative Rock, New Wave, Synthpop, and Techno influences together and delivered a hell of a track to the compilation. “Cosmic Arena” is groovy and dark, intense and melodic, energetic and trippy... In sum, it accomplishes the mission of a great tune: It triggers (good) emotions, sensations, and impressions. Too bad it cannot be played out loud in a packed club at the moment, but do yourself a favour and keep it in your repertoire until you have the opportunity. You will not regret it!

Based in the beautiful and vibrant city of Madrid, Spanish DJ and Producer Extraordinaire - Rayko has been a leading light in the clubbing scene around Europe and beyond, since he founded his magnificent Rare Wiri label in 2008 where he has released some of the coolest names out there during all these years like Daniele Baldelli, Man Parrish, Gazeebo, Ilija Rudman, Ichisan, Spirit Catcher, Mushrooms Project, or Eric Duncan among many others

His very unique sound and personality, and incredible work ethic, coupled with  unstoppable creative genius have given Rayko the momentum and consistency to stack up a number of great achievements in his genres, although being such a humble and down to earth guy, he will tell you that he just loves what he does and is perpetually inspired to keep on doing it!

Many of these titles have been repeatedly featured in Top 10 sales charts, with some releases making it to the coveted number one position on platforms like Juno Download, Beatport, and Traxsource. His talents as a remixer have been in constant high demand, with invitations from coveted Artists like Psychemagik, Sirs, In Flagranti, Roberto Rodriguez, or Dj Rocca, to name a few, calling upon his exceptional skills.

In his capacity as DJ, Rayko is much loved wherever he goes.
