Mr Native Bio

Passion, Ambition and Drive are just a few of many words that describe Okuhle Phuncu as a 25 year individual and a music Brand in the South African Hip Hop music scene. Born in the Eastern Cape, growing up in Cape Town and currently maturing in Johannesburg, Mr Native’s sound is influenced by Blues, Soul, Old School Hip Hop delivered on a new school Hip Hop Sound.  The production assumes natural live instrument sounds over melodic classic samples with a Hip Hop bounce or sometimes boombab bounce. Subject matter is the focus as it describes personal experiences, ambitions and good moments, delivered in smooth flow and a well-constructed rhyme scheme.

Mr Native is currently rebuilding his music career, returning from a 2 year sabbatical. Being in studio since January developing the sound, we are now ready to release a single titled ‘Tripping Out” written by Mr Native and produced by Sinemincilli ‘Qd.Tonj’ Tonjeni. We have begun the promotion phase in week 2 of June 2015, rebuilding traction on social media sites i.e Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,  AudioMack and soon on local and national radio. A documentary, based on his return, was shot by Oz from Blah ze Blah in Braamfontein, Johannesburg due for release soon via the same social networks with the inclusion of YouTube and Vimeo. Other songs titled; ‘Empire’ featuring a female vocalist, Phindy, ‘JumpOff’ featuring Qd.Tonj and Olo ‘Johnny Handsome’ Phuncu and ‘Weekend Drive’, building up to a video shoot of the most successful single will follow these singles. ‘Black Chapter’ is the Production and recording team behind Mr Native. The team comprises of 4 producers; Johnny Handsome,  Qd.Tonj,  Success  Sakasa, and Sandisiwe Tom, 3 engineers; Success, Sandisiwe and Qd.Tonj, with specific roles in the team namely; Executive production, Sound Engineering (Recording, Mixing and Mastering), Branding, Marketing and Business Development.

We see the Mr Native music Brand expanding to prominent local and national radio play listing, leading music TV channels (DSTV), local and international bookings, award winning singles and collaborations, we believe it will make an impact in the growth of South African Hip Hop. We saw potential the moment the Brand was active, being exposed to performances with the likes of, Aka, Locnville, Zakes Bantwini, Pro Kid and Ifani to name a few, Music Channel play listing on MTVBase and Channel O for songs titled ‘Real Talk with Blaqphamas and ‘Nothing to Prove’ with Blaqphamas and Hasty, both videos shot and directed by KyleWhite TV.  The aim is to make the mark with the Single ‘TrippingOut” with your assistance and backing.
