Whitebear - Bardo (Halfred Remix)

This week MalLabel Music has something special in more ways that one. We are blessed to bring you a truly inspiring full length album from Santa Cruz' unclassifiable: Caidance, but doubly so to help him to make this album a fundraiser for families in need. 

Caidance has been sharing his art with the community for some time with all manner of music predominately in the Bass Music realm, but with his new album he wanted to give something more. So, all proceeds of this album will be going to Sacred Heart Community Service. These beautiful souls provide families in need with basic needs and the skills to help build safer communities with more opportunities within. Their 'Pack-ABack 2015' program provided 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in need to get them started on the right foot with the tools they need to succeed. 

The album Stepping Boundaries is a majestic ride through Caribbean beaches and sun filled afternoons with a Reggae Dub vibe infused with glitches and psychedelia. With a little help from Alexi Kenney on violin, 'Starlit opens the album with a rich emotional overtone while 'Single Malt Dub' gets an introspective, sun inspired solo from Andrew Levin on guitar. The seductive vocal stylings and lyrical magic of Elly Martinez take three more of these tracks into the depths of the soul, while even one more of these gets a second treatment with a remix of 'Sleepwalking' by Wisemind. The passions between exude the majestic beauty and reflective essence this album was created to embody. Everything you need to harness the sunshine vibes into the heart of any dance floor. Fall deep down the rabbit hole with Rawtekk’s ‘Here’s To Them’ LP, a fascinating blend of innovative sound-scapes and twisted dance floor compositions.

Boasting years of experience in the world of professional sound design, Rawtekk's latest creation is a sonic masterpiece - a flawless follow-up to their stunning debut release on Med School back in 2013.

Opening track, ‘The Hatch’, offers the rawest of introductions as Rawtekk welcome you to their world. A swarm of disorder lets rip in ‘Here’s To Them’, chainsaw synths and head-banging chaos in ‘Harbour’ and tear-out, neuro drum-drillings fill ‘Extinction’.

Take a breath with the contrasting tranquility of ‘K.I.A.’, get gripped by the hauntingly delicate, ‘My Love’, and drift away with the wonderland whisperings of ‘Restless’, layered over a rumbling bassline.

'Here’s To Them’ is spider-web of electronic exploration, delivering a sinister, cinematic experience that is guaranteed to inspire the darker side of the imagination.

In 2015 London Elektricity surprised us all with his first album in over five years. ‘Are We There Yet?’ more than deserved its influx of praise, now the Med School team has taken on the label boss’ latest masterpiece. The ‘Med School Scans’ LP examines, dissects and transforms each track, injecting every member’s unique persona into the critically acclaimed original.

Etherwood, Keeno and Anile compliment London Elektricity’s originals with class, elevating each into majestic adaptations. Whiney and S.P.Y keep up the funk of ‘Tenderless’ and ‘Why Are We Here?’ while seeping through heavier subs and thicker percussions. Frederic Robinson creates an epic, dreamlike state with his rendition of ‘Seven Days To Live’.

Royalston and Rawtekk don’t hold back, their reconstructions of ‘Tone Poem’ and ‘Telefunken Lizard Filter’ move from jazz and soul to depth and darkness. The LP also features members of The Erised with Hidden Element taking ‘Parallax’ to a whole other level.

Outside of the Med School alumni, we’ve got up and comers GLXY with a sublime half-time trip on ‘Artificial Skin’. Kimyan Law keeps things crisp, finely tuning ‘That Thing You Did’ and Subwave falls deep into a whirlpool of Emer Dineen’s luscious vocals in his portrayal of ‘Phase Us’.

All 15 tracks in this remix LP keep hold of the London Elektricity essence yet spread the sound further across either end of the drum & bass spectrum. With ten years already behind them, Med School continue to push forward as a strong, independent player exploring every corner of drum & bass with their diverse roster of talented artists.

Ahead of this weekend’s boutique festival Field Maneuvers where the likes of The Black Madonna, Ben UFO and Axel Bowman will perform — we’ve got an hour long mixtape from none other than Altern-8’s Mark Archer.

As one-half of Altern-8, Mark Archer — alongside his partner in crime Chris Peat — laid down the foundation for stadium rave shows with their breakout album ‘Full On Mask Hysteria’, which was released some 25 years ago.

The duo were the genesis for the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Underworld and Orbital to pick up the baton and go out and conquer the world with their unique brand of acid house and stadium warehouse rave.

The track was added to at Blue Chip Studio's in Stafford and then remixed for the 2 versions that were commercially released in 1991.
