snd - tender love (mille plateaux, 2002)

snd are Mark Fell and Mat Steel, a pair of Sheffield DJs and musicians whose work has been described as glitch.[1] Naming their project after the extension often used for computer sound files, Fell and Steel are both expert programmers who disdain the usual electronics route of audio software or instruments. During 1998-99, they debuted with the "Tplay" single and Newtables EP on their own .snd label. In July 1999, Mille Plateaux released the debut album, Makesnd Cassette, with Stdiosnd Types following one year later.[2] Their most recent album, Atavism, was released in 2009 by Raster-Noton. Mark Fell and Mat Steel formed SND in 1998 and were quickly placed at the forefront of new digital minimalism. With a series of influential releases on their own label SND and on the now defunct Frankfurt Mille Plateaux, SND pioneered a sound that combined the linear minimalism of Ryoji Ikeda and Oval, with the rhythmic geometry of techno artists such as Thomas Brinkmann or Derrick May. 
SND promote an approach to the organization of sound, space and form that owes more to origami than any time based medium. SND explore the transformation of musical data: their music folds and unfolds, closes and opens, atomizes and regroups; a piece switches to a parallel version of itself, or gradually shifts into its opposite. ᥫᝤ ᥎᥅᥍᥄᥆᥈᥉ (Corollary 1)is the follow-up to The Newcomer's 2019 album Inner Being. Functioning as its corollary, ᥫᝤ ᥎᥅᥍᥄᥆᥈᥉ takes a strand from Inner Being and leads it down an entirely new direction.

Daydrenched melodies, jagged noise, stock orchestral samples, and neanderthal drum blows falter and flutter in ecstatic musical arrangements, oozing warmth and vibrance while digital buffers brutally overdrive and override one another, crafting utterly unique electronic music.
