Vixen - Synthesis [ Car Music & G-House Music]

Bassist and composer Joseph Franklin returns to NM for a wildstyle heat exchange, actioned live in collaboration with synthesist, composer and improviser Ben Carey. Modestly, this one does what it says on the box, however ‘a thousand tiny mutinies live’ revises motifs and prompts from Franklin’s solo bass and extended technique LP for NM in 2024 with spectacular license, captured in stunning high resolution audio.

Surrounded by an encircling audience, Franklin’s fragmented acoustic cycles issued from an array of instruments and sources were splayed across 4 channels at Brunswick’s Quadraphonic Club via Carey’s impressively restrained synthesis, software interaction and live engineering, mixed down to stereo for this release. The duo’s staggering meshes lurch from blistering to elongated and back again, often as tactile as they are psychically liquefied, both performances rippling at each other’s wide-eyed interpolations.

Quantitively, mere sinews of the original work flit in and out of focus, yet these strands are most noticeable even to those with a cursory familiarity with ‘a thousand tiny mutinies’. Carey’s attention to detail and care in the mix actively places Franklin’s performance in sharpest focus, re-nesting these percussive, often inter-tonal molecules into a realm of digital faceting, dragging their shared rationale into the cosmological. 

Frightening in its unpredictable objectives, this rare capture of a duo in such gleaming, inspired symbiosis does not strike so often.

Granular experiment

Faunipulate ~ I designed this track with controlled chaos in mind, the name is a representation of how us beings have manipulated the fauna around us, the respect of the environment is always priority.

Every sound is a modular approach to sound design, using some awesome M4L devices to map the parameters at random but keeping a controlled rhythm, sitting at 120BPM we're just chilling to the dub soundscapes.

The composition "Autumn of the Samurai" is an art project at the intersection of ethnic and electronic music. The composer's intention is clearly to create a sonic canvas where the cultural codes of Japanese tradition are reinterpreted through the prism of contemporary electronic production. The central theme of the piece is not a battle scene, but rather the lyrical and philosophical aspect of the image of a warrior immersed in deep contemplation. The arrangement is built on a subtle and thoughtful counterpoint of acoustic and synthesized timbres.

Imagine: you're standing on a mountaintop at night. The air is cold, the stars are bright. And then, from the depths of time, the voice of a shakuhachi emerges—lonely, piercing the soul, like the memory of a lost battle. This is the core of the entire track, its elegiac soul.

But this isn't a journey into the past! Because immediately, like falling leaves, the tints of a koto begin to overlap. They sound not like a single instrument, but like an echo that repeats itself, creating a complex, almost holographic pattern. The sound engineer here is a true ninja, encrypting within these layers all the transience of autumn, "mono no aware."

TAWSO is a NZ producer & DJ, based in Northland. He's drawn inspiration from artists UMEK, Jay Lumen, Patrick Scuro & more. He knows how to bring peaktime energy to any party, with his deep track selection of underground music.

BIMM University student studying towards a BA in Electronic Music Production. Passionate producer looking to further skills by working with other artists and producers as a Co-Production artist. Also play instruments to a fairly alright level.
