QVLN's signature, modern roots sound is a musical extension of his American, Mexican, and Brazilian heritage. As a gifted multi-instrumentalist and performer, QVLN (pronounced Q-Violin) expresses his passions for love, life, and dance with his voice, violin, guitar, and percussion.  

Locatora is a Radiophonic Novela hosted by Diosa and Mala also known as "Las Mamis of Myth & Bullshit". Like most millenial love stories, Diosa and Mala met on the internet. When fate brought the two LA locals together in real life, Diosa and Mala decided to combine their powers to become Las Mamis of Myth & Bullshit. Together, they conceptualized Locatora Radio, A Radiophonic Novela that celebrates the experiences, brilliance, creativity, and legacies of femmes and womxn of color. Entering their second year of podcasting, Locatora has become synonymous with discussions of femme tech, femme defense, and loca epistemologies. Locatora Radio moves beyond the confines of a studio space and connects with their listeners and community through workshops and community events. Event planners and femmecees in their own right, Las Locatoras incorporate the party as politic into their praxis. Keep up with Diosa and Mala as they discuss the layers and levels of femmeness and race, mental health, trauma, gender experience, sexuality, and oppression.

Irka’s music— rooted in the past—reveals our essence and lights the road to our future— Avelino Stanley, Former Vice Minister of Culture, Dominican Republic.

Irka Mateo is a global citizen, singer-songwriter, and Grammy Foundation supported folk music researcher. She traveled for ten years (1997-2007) in the rural areas of the Dominican Republic documenting more than thirteen genres of folk musical traditions — unknown in the wider Dominican culture and beyond and creating a Dominican folk music archive.  During this time she introduced the accordion into the Dominican/Latin alternative scene, brought to light the ‘Comarca,’ a wholly unknown genre outside of the countryside, and was the first woman to play traditional percussion in urban settings. From 1985 to 1996 she was one of the pioneers of the Dominican alternative music with Irka &Tadeu and Irka con Bohuti, renowned groups and essential reference of Dominican alternative music.

Currently, she writes “Mestizo Music,” Accordion and guitar-lead songs inspired by the indigenous/ Afro/ European folk traditions of her native country, as well as the wider Caribbean and Latin America. Her artistic endeavor expands the boundaries of Dominican music while building bridges to Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and the United States. Irka is also a lyricist who writes poetic lyrics to tell the stories of the Dominican people and those of other cultures, delivering songs of love and life. Her current album “Vamo a Goza” is an example of her style. It’s an album that fills the room with joy, dance, and musical enchantment.
