“Melody Hill,” the grunge-pop, atmospheric concept album is the soundtrack for Jessica Bell's debut novel “String Bridge” (2011), and channels the musical stylings of PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Nick Cave , Joni Mitchell, Nightmares on Wax, Enigma, among others.

The songs are written from the perspective of Melody, the main character from “String Bridge,” as she plans a return to the stage, reviving a musical career she previously abandoned for motherhood. Bell as songwriter mirrored Melody's musical influences in crafting the album.

In collaboration with George Priniotakis from Artracks Recording Studios in Athens, the styles of rock, pop, folk, and ambience were combined to create an atmospheric grunge CD that is also a visceral and addictive lyrical story.

Okay, I'm seriously too lazy to get a new lead for my mic (shame on me!), so I recorded vocals through my SKYPE phone. Ha! (Ridiculous, I know.) They are very heavily effected to make them sound decent. I thought it would sound horrible, but I think I may have proved myself wrong! Because they are heavily effected it might be hard to make out the words, so here you are:

Before I Was Born

Note: This short story is an experimental work of fiction written in verse. Word count: 1500.

A girl’s brief encounter in limbo, following a suicide attempt, after being sexually abused by a priest. God in limbo is represented by She. She has been misinformed about how faith is advocated on Earth, and sends the girl back for another chance at life, in the belief that she must repent for her sin.

This story explores the notion that it is blasphemous for religion to be institutionalized, because no matter what one believes, there will always be something or someone that contaminates its worth. The only faith anyone needs can be found within one’s own heart and soul.

I play a mix of rock, pop, folk, and ambient sounds, combined with  my own style of vocal which is heavily dependent on lyrics, to create an atmospheric grunge style for lack of a better description. Sometimes my tracks are a little better produced when I can afford it.

I'm currently experimenting with electronic instrumental pieces which I record in my home studio.
