Here is my 1980 mixtape, promo for the Motet's 2013 halloween run. I will be opening and playing set break during two of the shows (at the Aggie in FOCO and The Ogden here in Denver)! Some of these tracks might not make it into my set, so here they are just in case (many are downloadable). Enjoy the jams!

B.T. Express - Peace Pipe - Kay's 'Smoked Out' Edit

I put this together for this Friday's set at Stretch Disco in Manchester - http://tinyurl.com/63wu6na - mainly because over the years this has become firm favourite with certain Manchester clubbers. I realise that I'm stepping down a well trodden path with this but I've never had a problem with re-editing classics as long as I feel I'm bringing something new to the party. 

In recent years most people have become familiar with either the classic Larry Levan mix, the wonky dubbed out Hot Coins (Red Rack'em) version, or the stompy remake by Luke Unabomber. This edit is based on the original mix (which is still my favourite version of the track) and features some of the best piano/hammond interaction I've heard on a club record. It still brings a smile to my face that a gospel record has become such a big track amongst the 'chemically influenced', but it's the raw spirituality of it's groove that makes it so uplifting.

Incidentally the management of Band On The Wall have kindly given me an unlimited £5 concession list for Stretch Disco this friday. Stand On The Word (Leftside Wobble Edit)

Mojo would go of the radio at 4am every morning, except for Fridays and Sundays. I would wait at this delicatessent, this sort of café that he would go to after he finished but it was not for sure that he would show up, it wasn’t always 100% that he was gonna come there, id never met him before but I was told that Mojo comes to this place when he wants to get something to eat after his shows. The owner knows that im trying to get into the music business, im 15 years old at the time and im taking my mothers car when she goes to sleep and im waiting for about 3 weeks every night for Mojo in this delicatessent and he never shows up. Finally one night im playing video games at 4 o’clock in the morning and im waiting thinking this is guy is not gonna come again and in walks this little dude with this big Jheri curl in his hair, this gigantic moustashe, he looks like super Mario anyway in walks this guy “hey man how ya doin?” with this big gigantic voice out of this little man and I turned around instantly when I heard the voice and the owner of the place said “hey man you see this kid right here hes been waiting for you to show up here every night for 3 weeks man” and turns and say “oh yeah, whats your name man”? And I told him my name and he said “well what can I do for you”? I said “well ive got some music, you’ve got to hear it, its my friend, his music is really good”, it was Juan Atkins music that  I was trying to get to Mojo, at the time Juan was just making it and didn’t know what to do with it and I managed to make it possible for Juan to meet Mojo and from that meeting Juan’s music was played on the radio, ‘Alley’s of your mind’ and its all history from there.

Bt Express - Does It Feel Good

Originally featured on the 1976 Kudo release Capricorn Princess, 'All The Way Down' is low-down slice of mid seventies bluesy funk which first came under the LW scalpel four years ago and has since seen a very limited release on Kojak Giant Sounds (which now exchanges hands for silly money on Discogs).

I recently revisited the edit and remastered it using a bunch of great analog outboard I've since acquired through careless gear lust! This will only be available in download format for a short space of time so grab it whilst you can. Enjoy!  x
