Cleft Music is an independent record label and production co. based in Nashville, Tennessee. Started in 2003, it likes, records, and releases a broad spectrum of music. It's first releases were Nashville group, lylas, and Nashville by way of Helsinki's The Mattoid. 

Its house studio, The Teacher's Lounge, has undergone 4 revisions over the years, starting as a shack in the woods of Gallatin's city limits, to a house across from the Parthenon that is now condos, to a historic building in Sylvan Park's Park/Elkins district, to its current location in a row house built in the 1890's by the Louisville/Nashville Railroad Co. in the Wedgewood Houston arts district. 

The label has worked with different engineers and producers over the years, and much of it has been performed in house by Loney John Hutchins. One of its missions is to record, document, and release music that is often far from the beaten path. Another aim is to showcase emerging artists in an age when labels rarely sign groups that don't already have established tour circuits and fan bases. 

Cleft is an extension of its original incarnation, Appalachia Record Company, started in the early 80's by Loney (Fred) Hutchins. Suffice it to say, the label is a family affair, with Loney John Hutchins packing and shipping 45's at a young age with his family. The ARC label charted on both Cashbox and Billboard charts, back in the day.

Cleft also provides a number of audio services, from transfer to multitrack audio recording, both live and in the studio. Loney John Hutchins grew up with music recording but got his engineering discipline in film sound, with a BFA in Motion Picture, Television, and Recording Arts at Florida State University. He has worked professionally in Nashville since 2002, as well as performing with artist such as Bobby Bare Jr, Caitlin Rose, and The Mattoid.
