I am happy to present our first tape release by The Jaffa Kid as part of the brand new Digital Artefacts series. 

The series is an ode to the sound of the 90s, from Electro, IDM and Jungle to further different experimental stuff and sounds. The choice of tape as format seemed fitting for the aesthetic of the series. 

The first EP comes from UK based The Jaffa Kid (previously on 030303, Dischi Nottetempo, Gated Recordings and more) and is a solid mixture of Electro, Techno and beyond.

First up, we have the hardware electro genius, Ole Mic Odd, who has been dropping some incredible releases on renowned labels such as 99cts Records, Zement, Source Material and most recently, Kri. He’ll be taking over the first hour with his unique sound. Then, for the second hour, we’re welcoming another LA heavyweight, DJ ANGELDU$T, also known as Billy, who is currently part of the exciting US electronic duo project, LOWER TAR. With his serious musical chops showcased on Haven and other esteemed imprints, get ready for two hours of pure madness straight outta Lost Angeles.

My intention with the mix was to encapsulate the more peak-time club energies that I’m consistently drawn to at the moment, and from this, the natural layering that happened with the mix is a beautiful epitome of how I experience meditation. At the start of meditating, I go through x amount of minutes weaving through thoughts, sensations, going into a few thought spirals by accident, all on a steady stream towards something. It’s like the thoughts and feelings are all catching my attention, pulling me in a bit further. And then I get to this breakthrough point where it feels like my mind has completely cleared and I have pushed past the stickiness of thoughts; which the bridge in the mix massively resembles to me. On the build to this, the tempo & rhythm is something that can be followed to this point, resembling the forwards motion taking you from your conscious mind into your subconscious mind. I had quite a profound experience of this at Positive Education late last year. I had the intention for Space Drum Meditation’s set to follow the sounds with my eyes closed and to engage with my body throughout it. The difference I felt in my mind and body afterwards is something that has stayed with me since. It struck a deeper chord on how meditative music is, if you let go and allow it to be. So this is where the concept has occurred quite naturally, where music and meditation meet in taking us somewhere beyond ourselves.
