Alphahouse label-head Butane pairs up with New York’s Stephanie this May, with the ‘She Got That Janky Leg’ EP, comprising three original tracks from the duo. 

Andrew Rasse aka Butane launched the Alphahouse imprint in 2005 and has since released material from the likes of Alexi Delano, Skudge, Quenum and Kris Wadsworth, all of which have helped gain Alphahouse the highly praised status it maintains to this day. Here we see Rasse team up with Stephanie, a rising DJ & Producer on the New York circuit and further afield. Stephanie holds a residency at her home base’s leading nightclub, Output, which she’s earned after her relocation from Miami and a striking only three years behind the decks, which stands as testament to her skills as a DJ. 

The release opens up with ‘Jitter Jaw’, a raw bass-led number fueled by elongated subs, stabbing square wave bass hits and gritty analogue percussive sounds. Butane & Stephanie subtly evolve the drum programming over the cuts eight-minute duration, while the boomy bass sounds are processed and sporadic vocal licks drive the movement of the record. 

This is followed by ‘It’s Time To Jank’, which embraces a similar aesthetic with penetrating low-end sounds, shuffled rhythms and vocal chops. The drums take on a more direct club feel this time with their swung bumpy groove, while the powerful, hypnotic bass hook locks you in from the moment it’s introduced through to the tail end of the record. 

The release is then rounded off with ‘Talkin’ Jit’, which features Katel on vocals. The duo bring weighty 808 style drums to the forefront, alongside a meandering sub-bass hook to drive the composition. While Katel’s dubbed-out vocal lines are layered on top of the groove with crowd recordings, adding a further trippy feel to an already entrancing record.

Diynamic’s recent member from the Netherlands released his first whole EP on the Hamburg based label. His debut shows that his production skills have evolved enourmously in the last few months which justifies his constant appearance on Diynamic. The opener is a dreamy track which literally takes you by the hand and leads you through cold winter days. The huge power of its warm melody and the supporting vocals by Terry Shand embrace all kinds of music tastes. Also the dub version of “Take My Hand” shows that Karmon’s productions are nothing but pure beat and sound facility. With “When Dark Becomes Light” Karmon creates a very connecting atmosphere between the name and the track itself. Its relaxed pianotunes and the short but very intense acoustical break unite wonderfully with the melodic basslines. The melody of that track gives you a typical Diynamic earworm, we all love so much. The second b side track “Feel It” is a beautiful composition of both free heavenly melodies and wonderfully arranged synth & basslines, giving its listeners a feeling of total clarity and inner consciousness. - WE FEEL IT!
