Starting life at the beginning of 2015, Mt. Doubt is the project of Edinburgh-based musician Leo Bargery.  As a one man project, he released his debut album 'My Past Is A Quiet Beast' last year, which received radio airplay on Amazing Radio, Xfm, KEXP, and BBC Radio Scotland.  The album saw him gain praise from The Herald, The National, and be tipped as one of Vic Galloway's '25 Scottish Artists to Watch in 2016'. 

Time then some new material, and Mt. Doubt launches his 2016 with the release of brand new single 'Afterglow'.  Paired with b-side 'Hotel Key', the single will be released on 7” vinyl via Scottish Fiction (best known as Scottish music blog and radio show).

'Afterglow' once again pairs Bargery with producer Mark Morrow (The Winter Tradition), and combines sombre writing with full on quiet-loud-quiet dynamics, resulting in a track that displays a welcoming warmth yet remains slightly aloof.  The single is twinned with b-side 'Hotel Key', where Bargery's deep vocals come to the fore amidst a more stripped back set up, before building to a climatic encore.

The single will be launched with a special launch gig at Glasgow's Hug & Pint with support on the night coming from Earths, Hamish James Hawk, and Rising Pacific.  Tickets are on sale now for the advance price of £5 (+£1 sc) and you can also reserve your copy of 'Afterglow' on 7" vinyl by buying a ticket and vinyl bundle:

New single Mouthwash is a slight departure from the haunting, emotional alt-rock of the band's last EP. The single juxtaposes moments of Mt. Doubt at their most direct and approachable, with disconcerting phases and a disarming yet irresistible backing section.

Scottish Fiction Records are proud to present 'Conduits', the latest single from Edinburgh dark-pop group Mt. Doubt.

The track is the newest release from 2017’s acclaimed 'Moon Landings' EP. 'Moon Landings' was Mt. Doubt’s most fully rounded and accomplished collection of work to date, and no track demonstrates this better than 'Conduits'; a sailing, cascading tribute to the difficulties of interpersonal communication. Once again, frontman Leo Bargery manages to deliver impressionable lyrics, applicable to any meaning – drowned in metaphor, sang with enough heart to depict the emotional baggage of each individual interpretation. 'Conduits' is undoubtedly one of Mt. Doubt’s most impressive tracks to date.

The single is accompanied by a brand new b-side, 'Athletics Season' – a track swirling with vocal harmonies and pop hooks. Additionally fans who download the single will be treated to acoustic versions of previous singles 'Mouthwash' and 'Teeming'.

In the corner of his small bedroom in Somerville, Massachusetts, Luke Reed of Bent Shapes and Mini Dresses spends most nights quietly writing and recording solo material ranging from quiet and deliberate meditations, to summery jangle pop. Over the years, Luke has amassed a prolific collection of lonely and disenchanted pop songs, seldom released.

"I'm Dreaming" is Luke's first single of the year – an ultra-catchy, lo-fi dream pop song that follow's his collaborative single with Tea Leigh. Last year, The Native Sound re-released Luke Reed’s debut LP ‘Won’t Be There’. Initially self-released on Bandcamp last summer with no promotion, or even album art, 'Won't Be There' is a set of 16 lo-fi indie rock songs.

On The Dance Floor

'Blemishes' sees Mt. Doubt frontman Leo Bargery’s songwriting meander into evermore subdued territories; seeking positivity at the nadir, finding beauty in the blemishes.  Though still very much lyrically driven, the predominantly acoustic, “roomy”, sound of the track is underpinned by subtle, shimmering guitars added by long-term Mt. Doubt contributor and producer, James Callaghan, who recorded and produced the EP in the Edinburgh flat he shares with Bargery. 

Taking cues from acts such as Nick Cave, Silver Jews, Sparklehorse and John Grant, 'Blemishes' finds Mt. Doubt at their most bare, and most assured yet.
