EVENTIDE: An extended play by The Waterfalls

The Waterfalls’ debut EP already shows a development and maturing in the bands sound; with staple indie rock tunes such as ‘Petrol Boys’ and the bold ‘Wholesome’ coupled with bedroom pop and chill-rock inspired songs ‘Mornings’ and ‘A waste of time’. The EP closes with ‘Sunkissed’, with a hip-hop inspired drum and bass line which develops into a loud and driving rock song. 
Sunkissed ends the EP with the combination of the two sounds the band aim to combine on Eventide.

A Waste Of Time

The concept of the song is based on the vocal riff at the beginning, we experimented and built on the great feeling that it gives you. 

Similar to a train, we kept adding carriages to the song in the shape of different instruments, with the riff and the chords being the musical train tracks. We tried to create a trance-like state through repetition. 

The vocals, the guitars, the bass and the drums aren’t important — it’s about the adrenaline-fuelled feeling provided when they’re combined together.

MC was just born out of us just having fun. It was at a time where the songs were better when we played them faster and thought it would be funny to write a punky song where the kid from Superbad stole our girl. 

Ben was the Genesis of the song — writing the main bass riff you hear in the intro. Aaron and Sam jammed over that fuzzy strumming bass until they found their parts but the song really came together when Owen wrote the chorus riff. Aaron added words afterwards in a Strokes style vocal that is somewhere between shouting and singing. Looking back at it now, it was all for our own amusement really. Just something to give us a little laugh — I guess that’s what makes it one of our best songs.
