Shape of Water is a genre-fluid electronic art rock band based in Manchester, UK, formed in 2018 by Italian-born musicians Rox Capriotti and Luca De Falco. Known for fusing cinematic rock, electronic textures, grunge, and atmospheric soundscapes, the band crafts immersive musical experiences that defy categorization.
Rox and Luca first met in 2004 in their hometown of San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy, forming their earlier band The Lotus. After relocating to Manchester in 2015, they launched Shape of Water to pursue a more experimental and emotionally rich sound, often touching on themes of human relationships, inner conflict, and surrealism.
Their debut album Great Illusions, produced by Paul Reeve (Muse, Supergrass) and mixed in part by Sky Van Hoff (Rammstein), was released in 2020 to widespread acclaim. Classic Rock Magazine described them as "potentially huge," with coverage also appearing in Rolling Stone.de and Metal.de. The pandemic era saw them pivot to livestreamed performances and alternate versions of their music, culminating in the EPs Lockdown on Mars and Livestream from Mars.
For Halloween 2021, they released the haunting double single A Ghost In Manchester and a chilling cover of Mr. Sandman, showcasing their flair for dark storytelling. Their second full-length album Amor Fati arrived in 2022 via Eclipse Records, diving into themes of fate, free will, and existential introspection.
In 2024, Shape of Water kicked off the rollout of their third album with a series of bold and stylistically diverse singles: the funky and experimental NAKED, the aggressive and theatrical The Silence Of The Lambs, the dance-infused and melancholic Last Goodbye, the grunge-heavy, Nirvana-tinged Where I Belong, and the chaotic, punk-fueled Salt & Mercury. Their third full-length album, Petrichor, was released on 8th August 2025, offering their most ambitious and emotionally charged work to date.
The band’s dynamic live shows have earned them spots at major UK festivals including Call Of The Wild, Wildfire, WinterStorm, HRH, Firevolt, and NWOCR Livefest. With airplay from BBC Introducing and a growing global fanbase, Shape of Water continue to evolve, experiment, and challenge musical boundaries, delivering deeply emotional and genre-defiant work with every release.
