Here at Optimo Music we have been fans of Dennis Bovell for longer than we care to remember. We rate him as one of thee very best producers the UK has ever produced. From first hearing his work on the magnificent 'Silly Games" by Janet Kay through his incredible solo albums, his production on albums by The Slits, The Pop Group, Linton Kwesi johnson, Orange Juice, Saâda Bonaire and many more to his astonishing mixes on piles of highly sought after dub 7"s. He has been active in music for 40 years and is still going strong. In 2014 he worked with artists ranging from Rihanna to Golden Teacher! When we heard he was going to be performing in Glasgow late last year we tracked him down and asked if he would be up for going into Green Door studios for a day and doing something with Golden Teacher's music. He was and these are the results. Mr. Bovell did lots of overdubs, adding organ and other instrumentation, pitching down vocals and basslines and created these delirious dubbed out gems.

On the A side is the previously unreleased "Instigator" while on the AA side he reworked Golden Teacher's second single "Like A Hawk". Housed in another classic sleeve designed by Oli from Golden Teacher this two track 12" is a dream come true for us to release.

We’re very proud to present here the first of two legendary ‘lost’ albums both previously available only as rare-as-hen’s teeth private presses, from one Samuel K. Mfojo, the man known as Rim Kwaku Obeng.
As well as heralding the arrival as solo artist of an exciting new drummer, the title of his 1977 debut, Rim Arrives, also makes reference to the long struggle Kwaku had in getting to that point. To say that he ‘paid his dues’ is an understatement!

The Meant label really is on a fine run in 2015, and now offers up its 3rd release of the year. This one is a brilliant, club ready package from Rework and features excellent original material alongside carefully A&Red remixes from BALD and ClickBox.
Rework is a German collaborative project between Daniel Varga, Michael Kuebler and Sascha Hedgehog. As well as having ties to this label, they have released on Items & Things, Visionquest and Playhouse, and high profile fans include Seth Troxler. The creative trio has been doing this more than 15 years now, and as such is as good at making essential 12”s as it is full length albums.
Opener ‘Too Forward’ is a freaky bit of slow motion electronic house. Vast kicks form the marching beat as trippy vocals repeat the title’s refrain until it loses all form. Around it, sparking electronics and phased synth lines make for a fine cacophony that will undoubtedly freak out ‘floors.
The devilishly dark and alluring ‘Overdosed’ is a more up tempo track with shadowy post punk energy. No wave synths gurgle and tinny chords light up the centre as a disaffected vocal mutters about overdosing over the top. It’s another perfectly freaky track. Last offering ‘Candy And Korg’ is a wiggling, synthetic house track cut from the Gemini mould. It’s bubbly, rich and subtly groovy and is the sort of thing you’d hear in a Craig Richards set.
Magda favourites ClickBox then remix this one into a sparse but elastic affair with dry hi hats the main hook of a perfectly reduced minimal track. Finally, buy the EP digitally and you will also get a brilliant BALD remix of ‘Too Forward’ that is all tough synths, alien arps and reverb rich vocal ad libs.
Once again here Meant and Rework have cooked up a perfect dance floor storm.

From the "Tokyo Black Star-Edo Express EP" (wf-002) to be released on vinyl in stores worldwide on November 2nd, 2015 through Complete USA

Paris-born, Tokyo-raised, New York-based international eclectic French DJ, music producer and sound designer Alex from Tokyo is very excited to announce the October 2015 launch of his record label "world famous" with a new Tokyo Black Star EP (the first release in three years)!

Working in harmony with music partner and sound/mastering engineer Isao Kumano in Tokyo, Alex from Tokyo formed Tokyo Black Star in 2000 while remixing Big Moses feat. Jan'elle's house classic "For you" for Kerri Chandler's label Bassmental records. Since then Tokyo Black Star has released five EPs including the first-ever release on high-profile Berlin label Innversions (the "Psyche Dance EP," 2005) and their full length debut album “Black Ships” (April 2009, also on Innervisions), an EP on DJ Deep’s Deeply Rooted House label and remixes for artists like Tony Allen (P-Vine records Japan, 1999), Carl Craig (Psyche “Neurotic Behavior” on Planet E, 2011), Phenomenal Handclap Band (Tummy Touch Records, 2013), Bing Ji Ling (Lovemonk), and Kuniyuki (mule music), and among others. 

Always looking for new challenges and sonic adventures, in the summer of 2010 the Tokyo Black Star duo were joined by top Japanese audio professionals at Isao’s studio in Tokyo, leading to the creation of a new “revolutionary” audio brand called phonon (www.phonon-inc.com), which makes exceptional pro-audio equipment for studio and DJ use. phonon has been getting lots of attention for their legendary studio monitoring headphones the SMB-02, and now, at the same time as the launch of the world famous label, phonon are releasing their brand new mobile hi-fi phonon 4000 headphones. The attention to detail shown in the production of these top class electronics is typical of the kind of the care and love Tokyo Black Star put into their productions and Alex from Tokyo displays in his much-respected always-joyous DJ sets around the world.

Tokyo Black Star's last release, in 2013, was a special musical contribution called "X"  for a unique celebratory 10th anniversary compilation for Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas fashion brand Y-3.  Alex from Tokyo co-directed the exclusive compilation which can be heard at www.Y-3.com/music. Early in 2014, Alex from Tokyo was chosen to compile Volume 10 of the great CD series "Originals" on the London label claremont 56. Shortly after, in the summer of 2014, Tokyo Black Star started to work again on some new original music with the help of their great musician/analog equipment otaku friend Kenichi Takagi. The collaboration was fruitful, leading to Kenichi san officially becoming the third Tokyo Black Star member, bringing along some of his favorite old, new and handmade (modular) synths into the mix.

The four different straight up house music club tracks here on the "Edo Express EP" showcase Alex from Tokyo's versatile and funky DJ style and come from a very special fun jam session that took place in January 2015 at Isao’s Tokyo Black Star and phonon studio with Kenichi. The stunning artwork for the release is done by long-time collaborator the very talented New York based Japanese artist Tomokazu Matsuyama, who has been creating the Tokyo Black Star visual identity since their first release on Innversions in 2005. Please note that this is the first release on world famous but the catalogue number is actually wf-002.

They've chosen to edit the Krautrock-influenced "Nightclubbing" from Iggy Pop's seminal 1977 Lp "the Idiot".

The track was made famous again in 1996 when used in Cult film of the decade, Trainspotting. The guys turn the track into a fantastic end of the night thriller.

IggyPop - Nightclubbing (Monoblok&PSLKTR Edit)

Legendary post-punk band Public Image Ltd., fronted by punk icon John Lydon, recently returned to the studio to record their ninth album, This Is PiL, on which the song "I Must Be Dreaming" appears. 

Clouded Vision, the production outfit of Matt Walsh and Steve Cook, have turned out a slo-mo disco-inflected edit of "I Must Be Dreaming" and have offered their sun-drenched retake as a new episode of the Meant's free download serie.

This is the third episode of the serie after Monoblok&PSLKTR's edit of Iggy Pop's Nightclubbin' and Remain's edit of Grauzone's Eisbär (both still available on the label's soundcloud page).

"Signaling the genesis of a new force in machine soul, Organic Analogue commences operations with the effervescent tones of Jeremiah R’s The New Wave EP, a full-bodied, red-blooded exercise in robotic funk and celestial soundscapes backed up by a remix from Drexciyan electro titan Heinrich Müller. 

A somewhat shadowy figure, Jeremiah R has surfaced once previously with the super-limited run of his The 5th Dimension album. That LP first unveiled his gift for achingly beautiful synth arrangements and crisp drum programming. On this EP of bittersweet jams, the Rotterdam-based producer displays a keen ear for plush vistas of chords and pads steeped in the romance and wonder of science-fiction, while keeping a healthy eye on the appetite of an expectant dancefloor where it counts.
 
“Aquarian Dream” makes for the perfect starter, swirling in on lively arpeggios and starry-eyed synth lines before the stout drums and full-fat bass round the top-end reverie out with assured precision.
“The New Wave” does away with this cosmic optimism and instead heads into an introspective space, with its timeless bass line and nostalgic melodies identifying itself as the EP's heart and soul. “The Astral Journey” manages to pitch somewhere in between its two predecessors, all shimmering echoes and spacious patterns suspended by fine slithers of percussion. “Memory” too opts for a floating premise, drifting into earshot in a beatless hypnosis before considered pulses of mechanical means provide a heartbeat to the blissful, harmonious swells. 
“Read Only Memory” remix by Heinrich Müller, one of the more recent aliases for Detroit-born Gerald Donald, calls upon his cohort from Dopplereffekt to inject some breathless vocals into a creation steeped in sumptuous synth work, from the gutsy bass lines to the austere balance of delicate melodics that evoke romance from electronics like no-one else could.
 
With a tagline that states “memories of interstellar travel”, you can expect more evocative, star-gazing material from Organic Analogue Records in the near future."
