This years "Haloween" offering comes to you from a similarly dark and creepy place. I've always loved this Doors song, but never really paid attention to what it was about. The more I whittled the list down for potential songs to cover, this one took on a very specific meaning to me.

Process was months long. Started with practicing over this and several other songs (on the drums). Then learned and tracked the Bass guitar, and gave myself the ultimate challenge of learning to play it on Fretless. Then guitar seemed to be best done in slide style. Oh and there are some keys in there too! 

Singing is always last and went fast, and decided to push it up in the mix this time. 

This will be distributed through the main streaming services in the coming days, for now though, It's only on Soundcloud!

Brooklyn based Rips have quickly built a reputation amongst NYC showgoers, winning them over with their virtuous melodies and sheer ferocity amidst an endless flurry of shows. Their songs may channel late '70s New York City bands like Television and The Feelies, but Rips propels these references into something new. Their self-titled debut, produced by Austin Brown of Parquet Courts, is eleven tracks of buzzing guitar riffs driven by a charged rhythm section, all set under lyrics that are actually worth a damn.

Rips (the record) takes cues from the moonlighting era of rock, while delivering a set of songs distinctly fit for the modern age. Once described as a “hyperreal rock n’ roll group”, the phrase “borne forward ceaselessly into the future" is more what they’re going for here.

So break an old habit. Let your hair down (or up). Rips will take you there.

Melbourne's Constant Mongrel (featuring members of Terry, Woollen Kits, Taco Leg and Nun) return with a new 7” via Upset The Rhythm in conjunction with their 2019 European tour. ‘Experts in Skin’ is the little sister follow-up to 2018’s ‘Living In Excellence’. The A side single holds the familiar post-post punk angst the band is known for, only building ever higher with a triple saxophone flurry and singer Tom Ridgewell’s mutters on the often awkward nature of mainstream consumerism. On the flip side the band turns to its pop sensibilities producing the tough but sweet sounding ‘Schnuki’. Bassist Amy Hill’s bouncing vocals contrast to the anarcho-punk growls below. Subject matter being another complaint about people that are really fake nice. Can I help you darling? Honey? Sweetie? Deary? Pumpkin?...... no thanks.
