Star wars, the Godfather and Jurassic Park. The ever flowing river of time teaches us that all good things come in threes.

It’s true that Mumbai Science have always been marketing geniuses, but this time they might have hit the jackpot. Their masterplan: “Over the coming months, we’ll release three EP’s. One release a month, starting from January 9th”. That’s right, the duo plans to release not one, not two, but three original EP’s. hence: trilogy! (although the guys prefer to call it their ‘triumvirate’). Pretentious you say? We call it ambitious.

The music? Well, why wont we let our Mad Men do the pitch themselves: “With this trilogy, we feel like we experimented with genres like New Beat, Future Techno, Acid and Electro... In a way, we tried to reinterpret and contemporize everything we liked from our youth... Well, we just made something we think is quite cool”. And there’s that!

Part 2

The second chapter of a trilogy is where most of the story happens. Also, the second part is often the hardest. It is trapped between the beginning and the end and needs to keep the story going. Its goal is to hold the tension. Kind of what Vishnu, the second God of creation, does. Vishnu’s task is to preserve and sustain the universe. Vishnu is master of past, present and future.

Part 2 consists of two tracks. The first one, “Reality”, hits the floor with a swift, hasty groove and an unstoppable bassline. “Reality” hits you hard bro! The second track, “Transcendence”, features a monologue of LSD guru Timothy Leary. The track’s psychedelic sound reminds of early 90s club music. Are you ready to die and be reborn?

The music industry can be a dangerous place for an artistic mind. Sometimes, fan expectations, financial problems and press criticism can lead a creative soul into despair and depression. Rumor has it that Jonas Kiesekoms and Maarten Elen, better known as “Mumbai Science”, went through dark times, not being able to write music for some time. A close friend from the duo claims that: “After the success of their Impact EP, things went bad for them. The fame took its toll. Jonas took off to join a Sri Lankan Buddhist clergy to meditate – although we believe he was just hiding at his mum’s place – and Maarten started watching the complete Star Trek series.”

For true artists, it are times like these that shake them out of their comfort zone, open their mind and push their art to the next level. For Elen and Kiesekoms though, it took a hard-handed intervention by the label bosses to get to work again. Elen: “Well, they basically made us read the contract, which says that we owe them our first-born daughter and a lifelong supply of Belgian beers if we wouldn’t make this EP. A standard clause in Belgian law, but we really had no clue”.

Flash forward to today. Mumbai Science presents their latest work, the ‘1975 EP’. Two no-nonsense club-tracks, inspired by dirty warehouse techno but cheerfully colored with weird glitchy synths and catchy vocal snippets. The title track ‘1975’ features a deep male voice carelessly asking the crowd “So, What do you wanna do”. The answer is self-evident: "Party all night long and forget about our boyfriends!"

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But not when we’re talking about supermodels. The second track, ‘Models’, follows the same recipe as ‘1975’: overdriven warehouse techno extravagance with the lyrics paying tribute to Mumbai Science’s favorite… models. Some will say it’s a blatant rip-off of Teachers from Daft Punk, others will call it a homage. But does Mumbai science even care? Kiesekoms explains: “I don’t know man, we just made this track on one of those drunk afternoons. Is it getting released? Really? Well, I just hope we won’t get beat up by the French mafia again.”

With the original cut having garnered early support from the likes of Boys Noize, Loco Dice and Scuba, Edgar flips the the dub sensibilities and Chicago style
vocal chops off the elusive Aden into a proper New Jersey house joint, teaming with exuberant keys and irrepressible bounce.

Mumbai Science proudly presents “Déjà Vu”, the first single of their same-titled debut album. “Déjà Vu” takes you on a trip to a grim future, where partying is reduced to handing out business cards and personal trainers are the new superstars. Guest vocalist April Rose delivers a casual, slightly blasé recording, bringing a fictitious can’t-be-bothered woman to life, who roams in the world of the economic elite. Although dealing with heavy themes such as moral decline and corporate totalitarianism, Maarten Elen & Jonas Kiesekoms bring their message with their usual quirky panache. 

The Belgian duo, mostly known for their club hits ‘Ancova’, ‘Gold’ and ‘Lotus’, have been touring restlessly the past years, reaching some of the coolest and most respected venues and festivals in the world. From Fuse in Belgium to Space in Ibiza. From Loft in Barcelona to Womb in Tokyo. With their music widely supported by artists around the globe (from 2 many dj’s and Erol Alkan to Boys Noize, Tiga and beyond), the sounds of their beloved craft have reached across the world. Recently they conquered American hearts as well with shows at EDC in Las Vegas, U Street Music Hall in Washington DC and various HARD events. 

Déjà Vu, the album, features collaborations with some of the finest talents of our generation. DJ Spank-Spank from the legendary acid house formation Phuture delivers a mesmerizing vocal for “King Of The Top Floor”, while cult superstar Peaches does not – and never will - shy away from controversy on “Whistleblower”. Up-and-coming Belgian vocalist Gustaph (singer in the NY house collective Hercules and Love Affair) lends his golden voice on “The Call”, and Mixhell fires up their thunder drums on “Vegas”. 

The choice of guests on “Déjà Vu” wonderfully reflects the musical pilgrimage Mumbai Science undertook in the making of this album. Tapping deep into their musical heritage, Mumbai Science bring a piece of work that reflects their own, wayward view on contemporary dance music. Rough and dirty, but at the same time playful and quirky, without making any compromises on the artistic level. Instead Mumbai Science took the path less traveled and ended up at an uncharted place that somehow feels right at home 

Mumbai Science’s debut album “Déjà Vu” will be out June 16th on Lektroluv Records. From techno-with-an-attitude, over faux-pas electro-clash to straight-up Belgian rave. Expect a wonderful journey through the soundscapes of Mumbai Science.

It’s only been two years since Mumbai Science appeared on the music radar but they’ve managed to leave an unquestionable impression. Their tracks Ancova, Gold and Lotus got the support from all the big shots such as Boys Noize, Tiga and Brodinski, sending them on a surge to the EDM top ranks. The 2012 release of ‘The Unified Theory Trilogy’ confirmed their musical prowess and now they return to the plate with ‘Unite’, a new beat inspired record.

Touring around the world from Japan to Berlin to the USA, Mumbai Science got more in touch with the history that subsides in the darkest corners of the scene. Their new EP reflects a small gritty club where you have to rely on your ears to navigate. Funky bouncing synths meet a typical Mumbai bass. Shinichi Osawa delivers with a blazing remix, which adds a little more spice to the original!

Last but not least on this release is a remix from Alex Gopher of one of their classic tracks, ‘Lotus’. The unquestionable energy from the original track combined with Gopher's subtlety results in a track, which is impossible not to dance to.

Brace for Impact!

January 14th marks the release of a new ‘Mumbai Science’ single EP, called ‘Impact’. The 9th EP already by the Belgian electronic duo, praised for their ‘faux pas’ techno, a fusion of futuristic outer-space melodies and post mortem 909 grooves. This time, the guys pitch their work as ‘... a dark, apocalyptic journey, echoing themes of inner conflict, moral tribulation and regret.’ Sounds promising!

The original track on the EP is called ‘Impact’. When listening to the music, one cannot escape the feeling that the harsh Belgian conditions of political conflict tainted the art. Albeit very heavy to the heart, the original track delivers on its promise in style. ‘Impact’ is a powerful track, which definitely lives up to its name. 

On remix duty is John Roman, the Toronto based ‘wunderkind’ whose track ‘Petrified’ was proclaimed as tune of last summer by Tiga, Brodinski and other sophisticated people who know their shit. John accomplishes the seemingly impossible by transforming the heaviness of ‘Impact’ into his own cutting edge tribal-techno sound. Perfect for those who seek the ‘chic’ in ‘musique’.

The other remix is delivered by proper legends Cisco Ferreira and Ricardo Rodriguez, better known as ‘The Advent & Industrialyzer’. Cisco - ‘The Advent’ - stood at the cradle of Techno back 20 years ago and keeps playing an important role throughout its history. Together with Ricardo - ‘Industrialyzer’ -  they are renowned for their pursuit to push boundaries. The remix for ‘Impact’ shows their innovative look on Techno, blending the relentless arpeggiators of the original with a futuristic, machinelike timbre.

The ‘Impact EP’ showcases a broad spectrum of contemporary techno music. From the festival energy of Mumbai Science's original track, over the sleazy afterclub vibe of John Roman's version to the 'Kraftwerkian' interpretation of The Advent & Industrialyzer. The EP will be out on the 14th of January on Lektroluv records.

As summer season has begun to loom early this May, it’s with great pleasure that we accompany your sunny days to come with our sixth release on Délicieuse Records, marking the start of our newest collaboration with Colognian : Parra for Cuva.

Today’s headliner was quick to steal our hearts, as we fell hard four months ago for his title 'Swept Away' made in collaboration with his friend Mr. Gramo.

The two buddies were once students at the Hochschule der populären Künste (University of Fine Arts) in central Berlin where they studied sound design amongst many Berlin newcomers of the current scene such as Egokind, Marlon Hoffstadt, and 4nton.

This EP is to be fully savoured in 3 parts …

We first soothe our way into the delicious world of Parra for Cuva with their piece 'Fading Nights' seducing you with a hypnotizing beat, making way into a magical moment between Nicolas and Anna Naklab, as his faithful sidekick’s vocals exuberate powerful emotion, yet still maintaining a lightness. Let your mind adrift as a thrilling sensation takes over…

Enter a state of release as the EP adjoins under the title 'Small Flowerd', a track which oozes of mind blowing sensuality. The duo creates a natural ease and is sure to fulfil your devastating hunger. A melodious air overwhelms, sending us further into the depths of our imagination.

It’s a journey, a haute couture production which comes to an end with the mastered version of their forerunner title 'Swept Away', once again enhanced by Anna’s sublime vocals, skilfully accompanying a punchy and exhilarating melody. A piece with returning synths and ethereal arpeggios affirming their undeniable loyalty to the style of “Deep Pop”, a main reason for teaming up with our German counterparts.
