Bringing us to our twentieth release we have an NHS newcomer with their first ever EP, named Yotah, Offering up four tracks that teeter on the fringes of chunky maximalism and intricate, evolving modulation. ‘Rewiring’ is an exploration of hybridized and amorphous sonics into recognizable patterns, only to break through this consolidation (so evidently true to our nature) to peer into the unknown that lurks on the other side.

Such a notion is further established through the creative process that Yves pursued to develop his first body of work; learning and unlearning various styles of music to be left with a semblance of what was. His sound, not yet fully established as he humbly states, is always a vestige of the past, whispers of a previous set of patterns he has reinterpreted and rewired in his own mind.

NHD006 - Henzo - Stretford Blues

Finishing off Henzo’s banner 2022 that has seen releases on YCO and Peder Mannerfelt Produktion, the Manchester based producer dials back the tempo into 5 cuts of gloom-ridden dancefloor damagers for his Nervous Horizon debut. Running the gamut of Dancehall, Techno and Drum & Bass, the EP’s refined palette is laser-guided in its intention of favouring groove and atmosphere over melody and hooks.

The opening track, 'Survivorship Bias', rolls out a lurching and smudged drum break over an equally sketchy Donk and vocal sample in a Bolton-meets-Belgium chug affair. 'It’s Ours and Hours Alone' and 'Writhing' lean more towards a typical Dancehall rhythm, smattered with the reticulated percussion that Nervous Horizon have been known for, saturated and growling. 'His Troublesome Knees' sees a variation on the theme of the opener, with the addition of harrowing, gnarly strings that posit drama in the riff that runs almost throughout; An inescapable tension that juxtaposes the highly danceable groove. Rounding out Stretford Blues, 'A Pocket You Didn’t Expect' feels like 3 tempos at once: 82, 164 and 328BPM. The battering, unrelenting kicks laced over taut breaks and hats hark to Jungle Techno and Tech Step in their composition, but the drawn out and bleak orchestral breakdown, coupled with a barking, irate bassline, suggest that Henzo shows no allegiance to nostalgia and is moving intently into the future.

Welcoming another addition to the ever-growing NHS roster, we introduce the sounds of Matteo Coffetti with an erratic audio collage of sonic madness that toys with the fringes of Latin rhythm patterns and proto-fairy-tale sound palettes into a coagulation of ultra-syncopated bass music.

'Delphinine Capriole' takes form as a significant progression from much of Matteo's previous works through the increased broken sense of flow that can be found on this NHS debut. A seriously vast and intricate universe of sonic motifs and quarks can be found across each track, keeping each piece tightly woven into the last. A garbled sense of playfulness is offset by the fever dream presence that the release conveys so terrifyingly well. Matteo's sound feels like a deconstructed version of a previously existing genre of music from a distant world.

Matteo Coffetti - Bombicyne Labyrinth [NHS021]

Welcoming another addition to the ever-growing NHS roster, we introduce the sounds of Matteo Coffetti with an erratic audio collage of sonic madness that toys with the fringes of Latin rhythm patterns and proto-fairy-tale sound palettes into a coagulation of ultra-syncopated bass music.

Follow up 'Quadrifid Jettatura' is the equally eccentric twin to the previous entry. This track has a voice that tries to sing to radical pitches, calling out in a peculiar voice. The vocal chops twist and cut, barely escaping and twisting into one and other; a dream-like perplexion that defines itself as our lead. The 4 x 4 rhythm begins to appear for the first time, keeping the nimble pace throughout.

Fresh heat outta Bristol as @georg-i jumps on a compilation pairing dubby tendencies with lacerating sound design.

Making their first foray into cassette territory, Lyon label @dilldodosrecife come through with an all-star cast. Nothing but heavy hitters for the duration.

Slotting in nicely alongside contributions from the likes of Keita Sano and Jonquera, our premiere follows in the vein of intricately detailed excursions. Detailed, hyper-pointillist flex set against a backdrop of percolating trap percussion and low-end surge.
