On 6th June 2014, MUM Music were invited to perform live at the BBC Asian Network for Friday Night New Music with Yasser. As well as a live interview delving into MUM's musical journey, a live set was broadcast with Dal on the tabla and Manpreet on the decks.

The interview was broascast to the BBC Asian Network's global audience and the duo were praised for their new sound, the vibe it brings and the fusion of underground beats, heavy basslines and ethnic influence in the form of tabla breaks and Punjabi folk.

MUM Music - BBC Asian Network Live Set and Interview with Yasser Ranjha

‘Answer Me’ blends D'Stil's original song-writing style with a contemporary feel that is influenced by artists from UK Garage’s golden age, such as Mark Hill (Artful Dodger), Craig David and MJ Cole. With smooth R&B vocals and co-production by multi-instrumentalist Little King, ‘Answer Me’ is a 21st century re-telling of the pursuit of love, over a playful UKG sound from yesteryear. 

“The single is a taste of what’s to come from my debut EP,” comments D’Stil. “I’ve been living the UK Urban scene of my childhood and I’m proud to be releasing a single that is inspired by my idols.”  

Birmingham born D’Stil is part of a growing collective of urban artists such as Jorja Smith, Jaykae and Mist, all hailing from the West Midlands. D’Stil envisions a resurgent scene for British Urban music which celebrates culture and the love for pure music, with the aim to bring back the infamous noughties Garage raves.

The release of ‘Answer Me’ is D’Stil’s highly anticipated first single which follows the release of cover ballad ‘Thinking Bout The Time’. Set to release his first EP in Summer 2018, D’Stil aims to showcase his passion for emotive music on the live music scene, adding to his performing accolades of world famous venues which include Maida Vale Studios and the BBC Live Lounge.

’Cosmic Lion EP’ is a brand new four tracker from Eastern Pressure that showcases the talents of the Midlands based duo Move Until Motionless aka M.U.M. Music

Fusing experimental forward thinking sounds with a dancefloor vibration is something that M.U.M do so well, and this debut EP is something to get really excited about. From the EP’s first cut ‘St. Mandolinas’ you know this is special. Entering with a reggae styled piano riff it’s not long before the bass drops and the drums kick in to maximum effect. This is the perfect soundscape to begin proceedings on the EP. ‘Revelations’ drops next and is a percussive rolling groove that fuses a superb synth line with swirling pads to create a monster of a track. The third track on the EP is ‘Darbouka Bass’ which is as a deeper more mystical track that is already getting the thumbs up from DJ’s worldwide. This sets us up perfectly for the EP’s last track and the title track from the EP ‘Cosmic Lion’ which wraps up this release perfectly. From the intro you just know it’s an anthem as it mixes up mystical atmospherics with a subtle piano line while executing some excellent percussive drum patterns and a deep modulating bass.

Drop the Bass is a single that features M.U.M Music’s signature sounds; bass driven with electronic synths, the types of which you would be accustomed to hearing at some of the most popular electronic dance festivals, while their Eastern influences brings together the Indian ‘Tabla’ drum offering high octane Indian beats to an electronic composition.

These sounds, coupled together provide a unique listening experience termed by the production duo as ‘Tabla Bass’. Think M.I.A, Chase & Status and Skrillex – blend them together to make M.U.M Music!

The single was distributed by Asian Music Publishing who are supporting its global launch with support from Terry Mardi Group.

From Birmingham, UK, M.U.M is an experimental beat making duo with influences stemming from a massive love for bass and festival vibes. M.U.M (Move Until Motionless) are often inspired by their travels abroad to exotic places with vibrant music scenes ranging from Africa, Europe and Asia. } Their story starts with their family background as far back as 100 years ago being in the music sector with a family business wholesaling and selling musical instruments from their home city in the Punjab, India which continues today. 

With their maternal grandfather arriving in the UK in the 1950s to seek fortune in the Black Country’s coal and lock making industries, M.U.M are now third generation British Asians inspired by their dual heritage and musical dynasty.
