This instrumental album was created during the period 21 May - 5 June 2021, with re-arranging, editing, mixing and mastering done 26 June - 13 July 2021.  
It begins and ends with pieces that incorporate a recording of the cicadas that drove me crazy in May and June. The sonic palette of the album is mostly Logic’s Drummer, software bass, some ambient synth sounds, a couple of Apple guitar loops put into a software sampler, and sonic manipulation by plug-ins I got recently from SoundToys.

I found a great acid bass sound on my Dreadbox Typhon, and just played around with it while it was driven by an arpeggio on my Keystep 37, at 183 bpm. I recorded it into my Model 12 Mixer, then I did that a second time with a different sequence and slightly different settings on the patch, because it was so fun. I lined them up in Audacity, and found they actually worked pretty well together. I constructed a beat using the 808 kit on My deluge, made a variation, then fleshed it out a bit with an Oberheim DMX kit, which has some nice cymbals. I mostly worked with the DMX kit for the recording performance, where I played around with the stutter effects a bunch, which was lots of fun. I chopped a bit from the drum track to make a better ending, and I used the envelope tool a bit on the synth tracks in a couple places where things got to be a bit too much.

The source sound is harmonics played on my acoustic guitar
tuned to E flat/A/E flat/G/B/E flat.

This started with a bit of code I wrote to generate quasi-chaotic
sounds, very noisy.  I then mixed the results "by hand", 
changing speed of playback, and doing other pretty standard
things to try to give the track as much variety as possible
(for a noise track).

Desperate

Recorded in February 2024 as part of the RPM Challenge.

Source sound was recorded inside a spinet piano I had access
to briefly in Gig Harbor, Washington.  

I cut the recording into chunks, then assigned two 
measures to each chunk (proxies for "pitch" and "loudness"),
thus mapping each chunk to a point in 2D space.
I then created a path connecting all of these points using
a greedy, nearest neighbor method.
The path then determined the sequence of the chunks in 
the output.
This was done with different chunk length, and possibly
different starting points, and the layers mixed together.

Pianno

I have two music projects - Mungo and Death Nougat.  
Mungo music usually consists of instrumental ambient/electronic/rock/etc. 
Death Nougat music usually consists of short, fast, loop-based experiments. 
If the track is not identified as part of the Death Nougat project, it's Mungo!
