Caldon Glover presents their second album on Cryo-Chamber: Metrophagy, a post-cyberpunk reflection on the cognitive dissonance between our ever advancing civilization and the true nature of growth and decay. The album does not to evoke an imagined advanced future dystopia, but the very real dystopia of now, steeped equally in instant connectivity and rampant disconnection.

Metrophagy: The act of consuming cities.

Pale washes of florescent light and the hum of air conditioning disguise the city as separate from nature, but the separation of our technological utopia and the natural world is an illusion, a barrier maintained only in our minds. Under those florescent lights swarms of mosquitos, the last great predator of human kind, are caught in spiders webs. Roots grow through the concrete under our feet.
The least natural impulse of humanity is to fight decay, we fill in cracks and send out an ever expanding network of glass and copper tendrils, but this thing we call decay is truly growth; mold breaks down matter to create cradles for new life, hyphae wrap around our fiber optic networks, our corpses feed forests. Our city is being eaten out from under us because we refuse to believe ourselves a part of this cycle.

Our second mix is being released on Global Drone Day, an event created by Marie LeBlanc Flanagan of Weird Canada (https://droneday.org). This mix includes a new track by Chihei Hatakeyama from his forthcoming album, "Thousand Oceans," which will be released on Dronarivm in June on LP, CD, and digitally.

The mix, compiled by yours truly, Dmitry T., features tracks from various recent releases in the contemporary ambient/drone scene. These tracks have been a source of inspiration for me, and I hope they do the same for you. Drone on!

Following her 2023 debut, When You Need to Rest, Let the Sounds Hold You, released on Budapest’s EXILES, Abigél’s Mirror EP serves as a captivating follow-up and a purposeful first introduction to the world of ASIP, showcasing her ability to bridge experimental sound design with hypnotic, meditative drones.

“We begin at the edge, the Sad Sea, where the waves mirror our emotions, a boundary between the conscious and the deep unknown. As we dive, the waters grow wild, swirling in the chaos of our unconscious. But through the storm, we start to see the patterns—guided by the wolf, the soul’s escort through the shadows.

Mirror EP encompasses a diverse range of textures, from deeply immersive soundscapes to intricate rhythmic elements, reflecting swanasa's dedication to pushing the boundaries of ambient music, informed by the interplay of folk culture, Jungian psychology, and digital experimentation. Each composition is a seamless blend of synthetic and organic sounds, influenced by her connection to nature, creating an evocative experience that resonates with themes of ecological awareness and modern technology’s role in artistic expression.

Featuring rhythmic chanting and layered vocal samples that invoke a sense of ritual and deep introspection, washes of abstract sounds manipulated from the recordings of wolves, and mystical sounds straight from nature’s own. The EPs tracks highlight swanasa's exploration of sound as a symbolic language, inviting listeners into a world where the lines between reality and imagination blur.

swanasa's music is brought to life through her live performances, where Mirror EP and her previous material form the foundation for dynamic, meditative sets. Having performed alongside artists such as Abul Mogard, swanasa’s live shows emphasize deep listening and immersive sound environments, drawing audiences into her unique sonic world.

Mirror EP will be released on November 22nd, 2024, available as a digital download, mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri @ Black Knoll Studio, New York. The artwork, an original texture created by Zsuzsi Palman, continues the theme from Abigél’s first EP.

Today we have a 3.5 hour showcase by Roel Funcken, who has put together a Sampler Mix from a double-volume Australia Bushfire Compilation, which he has curated for Touched Music. This is a benefit release approaching 70+ tracks selected from the musicians around the world to raise funds “for the rescue, preservation and safe sanctuary of koalas and other vulnerable wildlife affected by the unprecedented catastrophic fires of the Australian Black Summer (September 2019 – February 2020) resulting in a massive loss of habitable forests.” Yes, during the current global [human] crisis it’s easy to forget about the disaster that has recently occurred on a remote continent, but it’s important to remember and support this endangered species in the time of need.
