Murder Channelを代表するアーティストである、アーリーレイヴとアーメン・ブレイクをこよなく愛する「FFF」が待望のニューアルバムをリリース!

90年代初期のジャングルを軸とし、彼の膨大なネタ群の中でも、70年代のクラウトロック（代表的なアーティストはドイツのCAN、NEU！など）、ノイズ、実験的な電子音楽〜ロック、ダブ等をサンプル・ソースとして積極的に取り入れている。
ゆえに、今作は少々シリアスな印象。しかし、持ち前の爽快感は損なわれていない、という恐るべきバランス感覚の作品である。

特に③などは、まるでP.I.Lと80年代後期のタックヘッドがルーツ・ダブの精神で溶け合っているかの如き。破壊的なレイヴ・スタブも飛び出す、かなり意欲的な一曲でテンションも異様なまでに高い。今作はFFFのターニング・ポイントに位置する非常に重要な作品だ。モッシュ少年だったのが、音楽の可能性を探るうち「作曲家」へと変貌を遂げた感もある。

これまでのキャリアではフットワークの良さと、ユーモアの精神が重要な要素だったのが、今作ではダークで実験的な面にフォーカスが当てられている。
ブライアン・イーノとデヴィッド・バーン（トーキング・ヘッズ）の共作"My life in the bush of ghosts"(1981年の作品なのだが、非常に興味深い内容なので、是非ともチェックしてもらいたい！）を早回しにし、割れたアーメンブレイクをブチ込んだ様な⑧には驚いた。この曲名が"the other side"という事からすると、どうもFFFは「今までの俺とは違うんだぜ」と主張している様に思えて仕方がない。
確かにダークな曲調のものは多いが、テンションが高いので「暗い」わけではない。嬉々としながら作曲に向かっている彼の姿が目に浮かぶ。

⑤はドイツ、ライプツィヒの「ジャータリ」を運営する「ディスラプト」を彷彿とさせるチープなダンスホールのループから始まる。その後の展開は...なのだが、アルバム一枚を通して聴くと、緩急のバランスがとれており、またもスキルアップを感じさる。⑥「アーメン・ソルジャーV.I.P.」などを聴くと、ハードコア・ジャングリスト達の心の拠り所を感じてしまう。FFFは、90年代初期のレイヴ〜ジャングルをずっとリビルドしている、という側面を忘れてはいけない。

CD版にのみ収録の10,11曲目はサイケアウツ・ゴーストによるリミックス。アーメン炸裂かと思いきや、このアルバムに漂う不穏な80'sニューウェーヴの空気を読み取ったディープで、スモーキンな出来具合。サスガの嗅覚！

サンプリング・ソースの違いだけではなく、FFFの2016年作は彼の内面の変化がダイレクトに反映された非常に興味深い作品だ。ネクスト・ステージへと己を上げる姿勢がビシビシと一音一音から伝わってくる。そこで我々は気付かされる。FFFはアーティストなのだと。今後の彼のサウンドにさらなる期待が高まる。
