London-based club night turned record label Sub Skank are set to kick off 2014 with a new EP from founding member Akito. The four-track ‘Metamessage’ EP will follow his debut ‘Unaquainted’ single from earlier last year and is set for release on 10th February.

Already picking up early DJ support from Ikonika, Brackles, Mr Beatnik and Last Japan amongst others, ‘Metamessage’ is the debut solo EP from 27 year-old beat-maker Akito Hearnshaw. Drawing on elements of Grime, House, UK Funky and Dancehall across its four tracks, the EP delivers a selection of fresh sound system testing club music.

The EP opens with the rugged title-track, ‘Metamessage’. Harnessing elements of all of Akito’s influences, it combines a sharp 4x4 drum pattern and stuttering percussive fills with a grimey square wave synth hook to create a powerhouse, peak time club production. The release also features an alternate mix of the track, which trades in the stomping 4x4 beat for a sparser, broken rhythm as it ups the tempo and increases the pressure.

Akito then delves deeper and darker on ‘Aqua Tryst’, the soundtrack to a recurring fantasy. Stripping back the melodies, he builds an impactful 8-bar arrangement which harnesses the energy of his early Grime influences, blending layers of tumbling percussion and drawn out waves of ambience into an incisive, industrial club cut. Switching things up again, the EP closes with ‘Bordello Bounce’, a lean and propulsive drum track which pairs its dancehall-tinged groove with heavy sub bass hits and a fog of white noise.

With his last EP offering on Keinemusik, &ME displayed himself once again as supplier of anthems that easily reconcile style with general floor purpose. You would think, such an universal and inexhaustible tune as this very “After Dark” can only be a lucky hit. But no, he’s knocking out the classic material just like that. Another example? Catalog number KM028, his brandnew “Trilogy” EP.
The titletrack on A initially places a synth arpeggio behind a kick that in dryness is hardly to excel. The beat of "Trilogy" is then seasoned with rimshot patterns until the saturated bassdrum comes in and paves the way to the dancefloor. &ME even refines his knack for stoic grooves on this jam and once again shows his sure feeling for suitable vocal features. Sabotas croon comes devoid of big gestures and still knows the ropes to appeal to the collective mentality of a clubcrowd.
On the flipside, “Woods” is living up to its name from the very beginning. Woody percussions are thumping within an almost subtropical scenario that’s frequently pervaded by mighty synth clouds. And once again, there’s an arpeggio sneaking in that at some point is taking the lead in this strictly instrumental affair. Add a break building that will educe a floor’s complete euphoric potential without going for the rather mindless escalation and there you have it: a B-side that’s actually more of an A-competitor.

A year after his last release on Delsin, Hungarian producer Q3A is back with four more cuts of techno and electro excellence. This alias is a side project by Lobster Theremin artist Route 8 and finds him making club tracks that ooze atmosphere and intriguing details. 
The 'Nameless Place' kicks off with a tense and tangled techno track that is urgent and slick as is hurries on through damp underground caverns. 'The Very End of You' completely flips the script and is a slow motion bit of dub. With only sparse kick drums, the focus is on the cavernous pads that smear in huge arcs as watery droplets and heavenly chords add to the brain soothing effect. 'Temple of Retribution' is back to techno, with a nod to Ko-Ta's 90's tribal productions, this time with loose, jumbled percussion and clipped drums cantering along at high speed. Again it's roomy stuff with no real edge. The 'Deva Station' drops into house mode, wriggling drums and distant vocal cries finished off with some classic Detroit keys. It's a high tech, soulful track that closes out a diverse and devastating EP.

Turbo Recordings presents the second in a series of club-vanquishing EPs from @dukedumont.

Following the rapturous reception of his first club-centric EP for Turbo, as well as remixes for Santigold and the forthcoming AlunaGeorge single, UK superproducer Duke Dumont returns to tighten his stranglehold on the worldwide nightgeist with FOR CLUB PLAY ONLY VOL. 2, this time training his sights on the Vocal Anthem heavyweight title.

A-side "No Money Blues" brings UK bass and deep house into the realm of crossover pop, while "The Giver" is an ecstatic vocal house anthem that would fit seamlessly alongside the most uplifting MURK classics. These are probably the two most "feel-good" tracks we will put out all year, but the impeccable level of quality actually lets you "feel good" about "feeling good."

This EP positions Dumont as the versatile international hitmaker we know him to be, establishing a globe-spanning Dukedom to unite us all.

Here's a short, but sweet new mix from myself that originally aired on the Annie Nightingale show on April 12th. 

On this mix, I wanted to spotlight some up and coming producers, as well as satisfy my own need to change things up here and there. I think this mix changes tempo 5 or 6 times in 30 minutes and it goes through all sorts of styles and sub-genres. Trap, Moombahton, House and just flat-out cool and weird music.
