Andy Mambeau is one third of Cheltenham art-rock continentalists The Drunken Gentlemen. The Fated Ape project chronicles Mambeau's ongoing experiments with Edwardian Roadhouse and Vaudeville Blues.

The Drunken Gentlemen play sleazy torch ballads, bar-room laments and louche indie pop using anything they, and their extended family of musicians, can lay their hands on: guitars, synths, violin, zither, accordion, found sounds and home-made pipe instruments.

Their songs form the perfect soundtrack to a Left Bank booze-up with Albert Camus or Mexican showdown with Yul Brynner (as a robot). Drink to it, dream of exotic lands, but be warned: these unpredictable sorts are always liable to create an ungodly racket when excited.
