"For the second installment in their 12” series Music From Memory present two deeply forward thinking electronic tracks from British musician Michal Turtle made between 1983-4.

The first track ‘Are you Psychic?’ is taken from Turtle’s obscure ‘Music From The Living Room’ album which Michal recorded literally in the living room of his family’s South London house at the young age of 22.

Over-running his parents' front room with various synthesizers, amps and instruments, and setting up a portable four track studio the ‘Music From The Living Room’ tracks were built around live jams that took place alone or sometimes with musicians he would invite to play alongside him. Whilst seemingly sample based the instruments were played live and any voices or sound effects were actually recorded directly to tape, or put onto tiny 2.5 second cassette loops.

‘Astral Decoy’ was made in the year following the release of his only solo LP and forms part of a series of unreleased tracks that reflect a growing interest in combining electronics with more analogue elements such as Xylophone and live percussion. At the same time this track draws inspiration from the sound of electro and boogie which Michal had become greatly interested in at the time, and in particular the work of musicians such as Grandmaster Flash.

With access to the archives of the many recordings made at his family home, this 12” serves as an introduction to a wider compilation of Michal Turtles works which is to follow on Music From Memory."

Israel’s hottest export follow up excellent EPs on Hivern and I’m A Cliché with a 3-tracker for the global psychedelic cult of Multi Culti.

Tel Aviv’s Red Axes are one of the most exciting new acts in dance music, with rich sound that is musical, deep, trippy and organic, while remaining precise and lethally effective in the club. The range in their sound is impressive, their talent unmistakeable. They are one of our favourite artists of the year, and this latest record is one of their best yet.

Lead track 'Waiting for a Surprise’ builds around a mid-tempo disco bassline, with tough percussion, and rugged synth stabs, but it’s the eerie and unique sounding vocals of Brazilian collaborator Abrao that bring everything together. This one is a guaranteed bomb for building up, tearing down, peak time or chilling out… an outstanding track in every sense, the kind that force trainspotters to the DJ booth to discover what’s playing. Next up, ‘Hope’ kicks off with resonant, delayed toms, adding a haunting howl and synths before dropping into a wild, clanging, carnivalesque frenzy. It’s understated, but advanced, with an interesting arrangement that really opens up in the second half. Finally, 'The Metal Bender’ slows the tempo but ups the vibe into an elated, slow-burning space-disco anthem. Fantastic stuff!

Melbourne’s Kris Baha, fresh from launching his Power Station imprint, offers a stripped down remix of ‘Waiting for a Surprise,’ with a heavy, industrial-influenced groove that wanders into the deep, dark end of party strasse.

Bespoke Musik connected to these fine gents through a mutual friend, Luis Rosenberg, who graced us with his fantastic, thoughtful, intricate, intelligent and thoroughly gorgeous mix last year... Bio:

Both having roots in Western Germany (or Nordrheinwestfalen, if you’re able to pronounce that), Philipp Fein and Max Schmitt found ancient techno Mecca Cologne to be their chosen home. It’s in that city where they started fruitful collaborations with like-minded beings as Johannes Klingebiel, Alma & Mater, and not least... each other. Products of said collaborations are various and colorful, be it music (of course), underground warehouse raves (the most sought after in the city), labels (namely "Ancient Future Now" and "Feines Tier“), or the opening of a new club (which will happen very soon). Keep your ears peeled for them.
