preliminary sketches for a piece for 3 Bb trumpets playing pedal tones. this is me overdubbed, no other sound manipulation.

3 Trumpets Sketches--Nicolee Kuester

This was the third round of challenges Stuart and I have done.  Our task this time was to create one main track without a pulse and one short "dance" drum loop.  We then exchanged drum loops and incorporated them into our pulseless tracks.  This track is the combination of my pulseless track and Stuart's drum loop.

I created this track with two instruments:

1. VCV Rack - a free modular synth program.  I ganged 8 random value generators into each other, feeding each others' triggers in a big loop, and then tapped the various generated output signals from this loop into four VCOs, 2 VCAs, and 2 mixers, to randomly generate pitches, volumes, and panning for each oscillator.  The result is a bunch of squiggly synth waves doing a bunch of random stuff.  It sounds a bit like the sound effect for the "funky bomb" weapon in the old MSDOS game, Scorched Earth, which is where I got the name.

2. A guitar cable plugged into my guitar modeler on the patch I use to play Van Halen songs.  I touched my finger to the tip of the cable to get the drone sound that sounds like mains wiring.  Turns out if you tap it really fast you can get neat percussive effects.

Anyway, I added the drum track and got this.
