BBC Radio 5 Live - First Look at the Papers 07/08/2020

Presenting the Official Chart on BBC Radio 1 on New Year's Day with one of my best mates Numi, after we won the Best Chart Show Award at the Student Radio Awards 2020. 

We made Chart history as Wham!'s Last Christmas, previously the best selling song never to be Number 1 was announced as the first chart topper of 2021. In doing so after a 36 year wait, it became the record holder for the track which took the longest time to reach Number 1.

BBC Radio 1 Official Chart Show Highlights 01/01/2021 - with Numi Gildert

After receiving support from Inhailer Radio and playing on BBC Introducing Live stage, adventurous pop rocker Roman A debuts with his single “Arrow”. The track’s musical alchemy fuses soaring strings inspired by A-ha and OneRepublic with a heartfelt Nate Ruess-like tenor set on a wondrous journey across echoing guitars, ambient synths, and dynamic rock drums. The song’s lyrics, in their term, create a vibrant snapshot of romanticising life through frequent use of metaphors and an overarching mood of idealising emotional experiences and dreaming out loud. 

The song's thematic focus on attaining the best version of yourself through creative endeavours reflects Roman A’s own experience navigating music. Previously an international student on an English language and literature degree, balancing academic commitments with artistic growth away from home became the foundation for the romantic  aesthetic characterising the artist’s sound. This effort has proven beneficial, allowing the singer to get US radio airplay, have a remix featured by A-ha’s official website, and release an instrumental EP “Affection” featuring tracks written for cafés and a music contest run by KIA. His all-round dedication also enabled Roman A to build a portfolio of live performances with gigs at HMV, Fringe Festival, and Gloucester Green Market, a venue recently featured on BBC Oxford. 

“Arrow” becomes an eloquent introduction into the musical world of Roman A, filled with the spirit of inspired self-exploration and capturing a sense of euphoria with a combination of atmospheric guitars, gentle bass lines and catchy vocal melodies. With this debut release, the artist sets out on a new adventure – bringing the song to the masses and solidifying his musical identity with active social media presence whilst planning new shows across the UK.
