Khruangbin are the Texas based three-piece that make psychedelic, acid jazz infused Thai funk music. Oh yes. Comprised of Laura Lee, Mark Speer and Donald Johnson, the trio have supported Bonobo across his USA tour and even had a track included in his Late Night Tales mix last year.LNT's artist label Night Time Stories subsequently signed them up, with single 'A Calf Born In Winter' released 19th May and an album in the works. Providing the soundtrack to your dreams and entering i-D's mid-week wind down session for their first ever mix, these are the psychedelic sounds of Khruangbin. Drift off.

"This is our very first mix tape. As such, we wanted to draw on original inspirations to each of us individually in the band, as well as together. In this we pull on Acid Jazz, Gospel, Brazilian Funk and Psych, Thai & Japanese Pop/Rock, "farm rock", Dub, Funk, and R&B to hopefully create a mix that is varied in style yet cohesive in feel. There are so many great albums out there including the 2 Virgin Ubiquities BBE put out... We could devote a whole week of radio programmes to Roy, his archive is so large… 

He is the key to all things between jazz, soul, disco and hip hop…. Thank you roy for all the music...

Roots of Vinyl #2 • Ladies Soul

I'm really very proud of this piece of radio. Last weekend myself and Dele Sosimi, celebrated the life and legacy of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Arguably one of the most influential musicians of his generation, a man whose and mark on music will be felt indefinitely. 

The first hour features my friend Dele Sosimi selecting some of his favourite Fela tracks and imparting his knowledge, wisdom and brilliant anecdotes. Dele is one of the primary authorities and purveyors of Afrobeat music around the world. He spent many years as part of Fela's infamours Afrika 70 band as the keyboardist and musical director. He then went on to work with Fela's son Femi Kuti also as his musical director and has collaborated with some of the best musicians worldwide. He is now based in London and spends his time educating people about the art of Afrobeat and sharing the sound through his Afrobeat Vibration. It was truly an honour to have him on the show paying tribute to his friend the legendary Fela Kuti. He has a great radio voice and is a wonderful sotry teller. 

The second hour is a mix from myself celebrating his legacy featuring artists who have been influenced by Fela with a few of his cuts thrown in there for good measure.
