Santuri - Jinja Pearls (Sam Jones Construct) (STW Premiere)

a new fresh funky band composed of two beatmakers and a keyboard player based in Rouen & Paris .
The concept of the band is to make new boogie tracks  and stylish soul songs composed  with loops , old vintage sounds ,  keys from the 70s and 80s  and guest vocals . On this first digital release they invite the incredible "Jawen" , a french soul singer. The 2 titles are from their forthcoming album, due for summer 2012.

Members of The Boogie Gentlemen: 
Samanto Faxx is a dj and  producer of the Mc " L'executeur de Hong kong " , Florian Pellissier is the keys player for Setenta , Camarao Orkestra , and dj Julien Lebrun is the member of Hi Perspective and the "Hot Casa records" manager.

Lots of new music and the Second half a 7-inch mix of Afro-funk from brilliant digger Dave Aarvark.

'This year, thanks to my local record shop - Rat Records in Camberwell - I have acquired a quality selection of original Nigerian & Ghanaian 7 Inch singles and EPs, dating from approximately 1962 to 1971 (the exact dates of some are unknown).

These records all originated from the same source and are mostly jùjú, with a few highlife tracks... Jùjú is a percussive Yoruba genre which originated in Nigeria in the 1920s, and jùjú rhythms are dominated by the talking drum. Highlife originated in Ghana and also can be traced back to the 1920s.

A number of these artists went on to greater fame in subsequent years as both jùjú and highlife began to reach a larger audience throughout Africa and the rest of the world, but I am impressed by the quality of this earlier, lesser known work.'

MIMS is delighted to present the online premiere of "Currents" by JAB, close to 7 sublime minutes of deep soulful jazz, whose steady rhythms could either carry away our feet on the dancefloor, or lure our thoughts to drift away to its seductive groove.

Following the acclaimed 'Directions' EP and last year's popular '6 Degrees of Separation', the mysterious multi-instrumentalist JAB is due to return with brand new 'Currents' EP on March 19. 

Title track, "Currents" was inspired by the hope glimpsed towards the end of the first lockdown, when restrictions started to ease, for a return to normality. The song opens with the pulse-like drums beating like a heartbeat, creating life as it unfolds, and the strings swoop and organ blossoms, with the bassline excitedly and playfully expressing fluidity. 

JAB tells us that ""Currents" represents movement to me and I think the world moved through many phases of emotions in 2020. Similar to a stream or an ocean you have a spectrum of textures from shallow and light, to deep and heavy.”

Well we can't wait to hear the whole EP. JAB is multi-talented musician, producer, composer and arranged, leading a powerful ensemble on this release. Vinyl and digital drops on March 19.
