This week on Island Time, we travel down to Texas to venture into the bubbling latin music scene of the 1960s through early 80s, giving some love to the context that gave us Selena. Working through some smooth latin soul, this mix floats along drawing from classic rock, corrido, conjunto, cumbia and more. "Personal space is something I feel very comfortable sharing with anyone that’s why it is a pleasure to welcome you the listener into a place that’s very open and free. I find music constantly forming a soundtrack to the moments in my life, this moment finds me in the beautiful surroundings of Monty’s garden accompanied by her friend Lilly and my wife sipping on fine wine and eating home made carrot cake. My record selections are often decided by the surroundings and the people around me, today is no different. I’m immediately made to feel at home and the atmosphere is warm. Feelings of uncertainty and nervousness occupy my mind prior to pressing play, the moment I put the first record down everything changes. Music is my solace, my therapy and for a long time now my best friend. Realising the role it plays in my life has been key to understanding my own emotions and mental health. There’s a deeper meaning to every note played and every word spoken so down the rabbit hole we go on an adventure we seek into the collection of my heart, I’ll let you take a peek.
