Seide auf Haut (feat. Donvtello, Fid Mella, Jamin, Lex Lugner & Opti Mane)

We are excited to premiere "Creeper", a low-slung jazz rocker that wouldn't sound out of place at the Roadhouse in Twin Peaks. 

Taken from the much anticipated new album by the BunnDebrettQuintet, led by founding members of 90s Acid Jazz band Mother Earth: percussionist & drummer, Stephen Bunn (Bunny), and guitarist and piano player Jon DeBrett. "Creeper" features fellow Mother Earther Matt Deighton on guitar. 

Following Mother Earth, Bunn and DeBrett collaborated as remixers & producers whilst signed to Mercury Records. The pair called it quits on the music industry sometime around the turn of the millennium. In 2019 they bumped into each other at the world famous 100 Club in London's Oxford Street at a gig featuring a new line-up of Mother Earth with Matt Deighton from the original line-up. The inspiration to collaborate again was born from conversations that Stephen and Jon had that night, particularly on the bus ride home, the '94 to Acton Green'.

Mere weeks later they were back in the studio recording new music, calling on the highest calibre of collaborators, including Oakland-based poet and DJ Khalab collaborator Tenesha the Wordsmith, and on horns, Collocutor band-leader Tamar Osborn, Tommy Chase Quartet's Alan Barnes and celebrated Phil Asher collaborator Nathan Haines. BDQ were also joined by vibraphonist & 4Hero collaborator, Roger Beaujolais, and fellow Mother Earthers Neil Corcoran and, as heard on "Creeper", Matt Deighton.

A hugely respected and loved artist within the British music industry, apart from fronting Mother Earth, Deighton was Paul Weller’s guitarist of choice and Noel Gallagher’s replacement in ‘Oasis’. He was recently profiled in the Sky Arts documentary, 'Overshadowed'. Deighton is joined on "Creeper" by Alan Barnes, who's gritty sax sets the mood.

BunnDebrettQuintet's superb self-titled double vinyl debut album is officially released on June 30, but can be found in select record stores in London town if you do a little digging.

Lost Control w/ New Digital Fidelity & Black Eyes - March 2024

For the last 10 years I’ve been releasing this project exploring music that evokes spirituality and a connection to nature. Spiritual music that isn’t necessarily religious in nature and also has a wide musical lens, beyond spiritual jazz or gospel for example.

Spring in my hometown of Montreal always arrives at least 4 weeks later than almost anywhere in the world. And because of our long grueling winters, when springtime arrives in the city you can feel the effect on everyone’s collective mood. There’s a certain indescribable electricity in the air.

This project is dedicated to my mom.
Dedicated to all of us who have survived the storms.

Mix of the Week #533: Cazbee - In-Flight Mix (Part 1)

Next up in Mr Bongo’s Record Club mix series, we’re delighted to welcome São Paulo based DJ, @giununez. Collecting music since she was a young child, Giu started piecing together the sounds she had been digging into DJ sets from the age of 18. Fast forward 16 years and Giu’s prominence as an eclectic and inspiring DJ and selector has seen her regularly grace the lineups of some of Brazil’s best parties and festivals including Gop Tun Festival, Coala Festival and DGTL São Paulo. Further afield, European tours have seen her playing at Amsterdam Dance Event alongside gigs in the likes of London, Paris, Prague, Bordeaux and beyond.

Giu is also part of the Domply collective as a resident DJ of one of Rio de Janeiro’s most loved parties, alongside being a key presence in the São Paulo scene. She contributes to radio shows all over the world with appearances on Worldwide FM, The Lot Radio, Rinse FM, Kiosk, Operator to name just a few. 

For this hour long mix, Giu has put together a selection of sumptuous Brazilian street soul sounds that really highlight the melting pot of influences this scene encompasses. In her own words she mentions:

“My intention was to share a bit of Street Soul from Brazil, some more popular songs, some more obscure, but in any case, all beautiful songs about being in love. 

There are too many favourites in here. I love the version of Jorge Ben ‘Menina Mulher Da Pele Preta’ by Sublimes, it's another mix from a single with six minutes that keeps me totally in. There’s also another Jorge Ben version, ‘Meu Namorado’ by Verônica Sabino, which is a very interesting production. 

Luna & Dj Cri ‘Acabou Como Começou’ has so many amazing details to it. The guitars, keyboards and synths - everything is perfect. Inimigo Público with ‘Fantasia’ uses keyboards like guitars, two vocals working in an awesome way. ‘Soltos Pela Noite’ by Nina Catarina has a layer of reggae that catches me every time.”
