Australian jazz funk ensemble Kerbside Collection return with dusty grooves of “Round The Corner”, the second single to be taken from their forthcoming fourth studio album of the same name, following the lush & laidback “‘Glaze”.

Referring to some of the ‘unknowns’ and ‘uncertainties’ around the corner post cv-19, “Round The Corner” is also an uplifting groove affirmation looking forward to the positive things, and seasons to come round these kinds of unknown corners, and the new year ahead.  

In contrast to the cruisy, layered and cinematic first single, ‘Round The Corner’ is a tight, dancy, uptempo, jazz funk burner featuring the group’s core trio raw and upfront. The Rubbery, pulsating electric bass guitar of Lachlan Symons, the silky Fender rhodes (and acoustic piano solo), jazzy guitar licks guitar of Andrew Fincher, and the gritty, razor sharp grooves and percussion of drummer paprika, are all wrapped up into this dancefloor-friendly, contemporary live jazz funk track.

“Round The Corner” embodies some of the current resurgence of live jazz-house crossover sounds coming out of Australia (Horatio Luna, First Beige etc), whilst also reminiscent of Incognito, The Rebirth and Herbie Hancock’s 70’s jazz fusion years. Another sumptuous taste of what to expect on this special new record from ‘down-under’ out on modern funk and soul label Légère Recordings.

This Italian duo goes by the name of Re:Fill and they fuse 1970s jazz-funk, UKs broken beats, and Brazilian-like atmospheres into a refreshing sound for the dance floor. The album 'Cycles' will be released via Cognitiva Records and out tomorrow.

Long time label friends Megatronic and Edseven join the Feedasoul Records family to share new duo project, SMTHNG SMTIME.

On their forthcoming six-tracker EP Megan, Eddie and an array of talented guests draw on their combined UK and Australian influences, over a broad musical spectrum, ranging from jazz and soul, to deep House and broken beat.

Our premiere today, title track 'Geographic’, is a deep house-forward cut with original vocals, layered on top of a driving rhythm and horn section. The duo’s jazz and broken beat influences are particularly evident on this track. 

We are looking forward to playing this track out soon and of course hearing much more from the duo.

New week, new premiere - we follow up last week's Henry Keen premiere with this sample-heavy 4/4 cut from Darran P, with elements of vibraphone peppering the mix to great effect... his "Into The Light" EP will be out July 21st!  Shout out to Minor Notes Recordings!

UK based DJ & Producer Darran P returns to Minor Notes with his first full artist offering. Into The Light EP kicks things off with a jazz drenched deep house vibe. This release contains 4 original tracks from Darran + 2 remixes from Russian producers SIL and Tsktch. 

Jazzmatazz is a low slung affair which veers off into darker territory mid-way through the rhythmic excursion. Next up is a track entitled ‘It Was All So Simple’ a sample-heavy 4/4 cut with elements of vibraphone peppering the mix to great effect. About A boy switches the tempo up slightly with a heavy beat-laden exotic sound which has a familiar vibe throughout. Finally, the EP finishes with Skyline Blvd, a track that has a hypnotic groove and a wandering baseline. The track was inspired by the drive along the pacific coast highway to San Francisco.

We are super happy to have this long awaited release on our board and push very different music which we are very inspired by.

[PREMIERE] Darran P - It Was All So Simple

Following on from his amazing 'Illusions' EP on Bergerac, Tommy Rawson delivers another wonderful EP of Broken Beat and Soulful House.  Many of the tracks give a solid nod to the early 2000's Broken beat movement, but with a contemporary twist.

New music today from Agile Experiments, true believers of the freedom principle, who live up to their reputation for having the heaviest abstract grooves on "if you believe”. 

Taken from forthcoming album, ‘These Are Time For Mind And Spirit’, which sees the ever-evolving Agile Experiments return with their sharpest record to date, "if you believe" patiently unravels over a uniquely voiced drum groove building toward ecstatic echo walls of layered saxophone bliss. 

The de facto leader of Agile Experiments, and sole constant, is drummer, bassist and producer, Dave De Rose. Whilst incredibly busy recording and self-releasing albums, he also finds time to record and tour with Gnawa fusionists, Electric Jalaba, and has performed alongside the likes of Mulatu Astatke and Róisín Murphy.

According to Dave De Rose, "this title (if you believe) is stolen from a Meshell Ndegeocello lyric "if you believe that your god is better than another man, how will we end all your suffering?"... I'm often thinking about belief, whether in religious or non religious contexts. I made up my own belief over the years. It's not static belief, it's flexible and evolves with me and my understanding of life as I carry on gaining information. It borrows from old faith systems and mixes them with scientific research not belonging to either. Always open. This track is mysterious, it builds in a subtle, constant manner, small details keep bubbling in showing you a bigger picture before it dissipates. You can pay attention or you can just let it sweep over you, just like life and belief in things we don't understand".

De Rose is joined by Jon Scott (of Go Go Penguin) on drums and George Crowley (of Melt Yourself Down) on saxophone and machines. Together they pursue the perfect meeting point between free improvisation, irresistible groove and enveloping sound. 

‘These Are Time For Mind And Spirit’ is Agile Experiments' 11th release in four years. This fertile communal project continues to proliferate without repeating itself due to its creative methodology, receiving support across BBC Radio 6 Music, The Wire, Jazzwise, Worldwide FM and NTS. 

Agile Experiments is a method of creation rather than a band; The setting of a frame of mind that encourages the musicians to unleash their utmost creativity placing no limit on their imagination. This absolute freedom increases the will of the musicians to give their most selfless self, guiding the musical direction of the recordings collectively through original pathways that are beneficial to artist and listener alike.
