As for our Raccoon—last we saw, they were enjoying summer with Mango the Toucan on a floating island. Now, as the leaves fall, with Mango still around, the island has turned into a garden, complete with carrots and Jazz the Bunny. Together, the three partake in deep conversations, cultivating, and connecting with nature. The colors are shifting, the vibes are mellowing, and a new chapter in the Chillhop world begins. Stay tuned to see where this journey takes us next season.

It is an absolute joy to get an exclusive mix from Woodstock, NY’s Photay, an artist (dare I say it, prodigy) that never ceases to inspire our ears. This young man caught our attention from his very first few releases including his self-released debut “1st” along with his string of brilliant EP’s and album on Astro Nautico.

Even though he came up within what we could call the “beat” scene, his musicianship has shown through each project and sees him evolve into more ambitious music with each release, similar to the musical trajectory of contemporary beatsmiths Flying Lotus, Natureboy Flako, Bullion and Daedelus to name a few.

We gave him carte blanche for this mix. Hope you enjoy!

Music Is My Sanctuary is excited to share  something very different today. "Root", an exciting blend of jazz, electronic music and hip hop from Italian musician and producer, KARU. Taken from forthcoming album, 'Kuru' on Beat Machine Records. 

According to KARU, ""Root" represents the starting idea from which all of KURU primordial sounds are generated. These sounds chase each other between the tracks of the entire album, creating a looping pattern, similar to a mantra. This process of elaboration, like a root that grows, is the core of my musical creation".  

‘Kuru’ is the first album composed by the collaborative project KARU, and orchestrated by the multi-instrumentalist Alberto Brutti. He delves into his passions for tribal culture, jazz and electronic production, combining them in a work that is in equal parts uplifting and somber. The album is completed with a footwork inspired remix from On The Corner associated Guedra Guedra.

Eyes [DEFCON 1]

A super fresh slice of modern electro funk with squeeze of pop, grooving at a perfect mid-pace. "Haters Hate" is the third single taken from Technoir's forthcoming album, 'Never Trust the Algorithm'. MIMS is also excited to share a brand new self-animated video that the Milan-based couple made to accompany the single.

"Hater's Hate" doesn't pull any punches. A slamming beat and tell-it-like-it-is concept, referring to the constant negative content the couple read and experience online and importantly how that influences us, even if it's not obvious at the time.

Lead vocalist Jennifer Villa explains, "“Haters Hate", as you can get from the title, talks about the constant hate we are exposed to constantly, especially on social media and the web, and how this influences us even if we can't tell.”

Jennifer Villa and Alexandros Finizio who make up Technoir are the total creative force behind the project. Alexandros dominates the song writing and production elements, both sing and play multiple instruments and together, they carve out the artwork and create and manipulate the videos.

Whilst the duo's debut album NeMui (2017) nestled and flowed, their forthcoming LP bubbles with a sense of anxiety and foreboding, offering an insight into the couple's place in a world where social media and technology dominate our existence and algorithms favour the select few, monopolising art, culture and life. 

Released on 30th October, Never Trust the Algorithm melds beauty and anguish underscored by their love for hip hop, Radiohead and Frank Miller comics and will be released on CD, LP and digital via the bands own imprint Kengah Records.

When making this, I wanted to keep the steampunk feel the original had but I also added a bit of Vaporwave vibes to add some uniqueness into the track! I hope you enjoy this BADASS remix!!

Book 5 Map Theme Remix

MIMS is delighted to premiere "Green Leaves" by Milan-based producer, DayKoda, featuring the rhymes of  Block Mameli. 

"Green Leaves" is the first new track extracted from DayKoda's second full-length album 'PHYSIS', a meticulous beat-work that unravels through the jungle, steady and rhythmic with its shred light drums and jaunty samples.

'PHYSIS' is due to drop on March 11 on Beat Machine Records, and will also feature "My Abstract Monkey", a collaboration with our recent crucial material pick, Robohands, that came out later year. Plus a brand new remix by Ishmael Ensemble. 

Born in Brescia and now based in Milan, under his moniker DayKoda, Andrea Gamba has been gradually building a reputation for his blend of electronic and experimental slow-mo beat, inspired by Bonobo, Shigeto, Shlohmo and Teebs.

To start the label with, we present the first project ever released by Tom Manzarek.

After learning piano as a kid, he became years later a self taught beatmaker. More known as TMZK during the “golden age” of Soundcloud, he was part of a beatmaking scene that was flourishing back then.
This background, plus being a DJ in clubs, owning a radio station and regular shows, gave him the ability to flip every genre into his own perspective.
“Courreau Groove” is an EP that shows his culture and eclecticism. Eight tracks between beats, house, modern funk, jungle or broken-beat that fit perfectly together.
