The return of time travelling disco afficionados Space Echo is immanent, and their 3rd contribution to the Luv Shack catalogue is a very special one indeed. The three tracks on the 'Rare Function EP' are boasting with dusty 70s blues magic!

The first track 'Go Down' is somewhat more akin to earlier Space Echo tracks, with a disco loop that steadily builds in the background, funky house drumming and a big beefy bassline. However the gospel vocals and the evolving synth strings in the second break take ' Go Down' to another level of dancefloor goodness.

'Rare Function' sees Space Echo take a moody excursion into southern funk. With an insanely addictive rhodes hook, shimmering strings and a soothing vocal line that hits right in the guts, this piece is well suited to liven up any house set.

The final track is called 'Rainbow Power' and its probably the most uncanny Space Echo track to date. Its a full on party rendition of a lesser known early 70s funk piece that just blasts off after being introduced to a fat acid line!

The EP is a testament to the musical development of the Space Echo project and we're excited to hear what the future holds.

I’m proud to present this new release of mine. Not only because it’s me writing the hype sheet, but for the fact that this track has been with me for so long and finally it finds its way out to the public. 
The track itself is inspired by some mid eightees song and the result is a slow pulsating 104 BPM track with lots of melodic synths with a vocal sample saying ROCK IT!
Second reason for the proud moment, we have one of Norways finest in the Disco scene on the remix duty. Following the same path of success as Lindstrøm and Prins Thomas, diskJokke is in great demand, his versions of Ost &amp; Kjex, Daniel Wang, David Lynch, Lindstrom and Bloc Party Monarchy are considered mini-masterpieces, and labels fight to get music from him.His real name is Joachim Dyhrdal, he is a classically trained violinist from Svelvik, Norway
diskJokke is hot property, he rarely do remixes these days.He discovered electronic music aged 15 and as diskJokke he since then produces demented techno and creamy, dub-spacious electronica, house and Italo-disco for a living, with fans amongst tastemakers throughout the electronic-world.His recent release, ‘Maneter’ (with Djuma Soundsystem) was a great success on Sander Kleinenberg’s This Is Records, and there are more golden nuggets in the pipeline we are told.

Brooklyn's Let's Play House keeps building momentum with its second release of 2012. This time, label heads Jacques Renault, Nik Mercer, and James Friedman have teamed up with a pair of artists shrouded in mystery—the Dead Rose Music Company—to put out an EP featuring four songs that confound definition... 


The Four Songs EP is a collection of tracks that aim to be cinematic in their production approach: these are epic mixes meant to stand the test of time, fueled by huge drops, warm, syrupy bass lines, and ear-tickling effects. While the four songs are technically edits, Dead Rose have left their inimitable fingerprints all over them. Each tune has the air and ambiance of a groove you got into at a party, but can't remember fully the morning after; they're visceral and almost dreamy, like the jumbled recollections of last night's disco fading in and out of strobe-lit smoke on the dancefloor.

XVI Records appear to believe in the old adage "less is more." I say this because they operate on a business model that is in stark contrast to what peers are doing within the same genre. In the six years they have been around, they have only come out with a total of 8 records. That's a mind-boggling low number when compared to other similarly sized labels that might churn out 8 records in a calendar year.

Fortunately, however, the label also seems to believe in the mantra "quality over quantity," since their past releases from Books, Munro, and Henry Wu have been some of our favorites in recent memory. This philosophy acts to make the eclectic & spaced out voyages they take their listeners on much more memorable and meaningful.

The 4th edition in the acclaimed Sterns Edits series sees curator Ben Gomori open up the Sterns Music catalogue to other keen re-editors — with Brownswood / Worldwide genius SMBD (aka Simbad) the first to step up to the plate.

Nigeria's Segun Adewale is sometimes referred to as the 'crown prince' of Jùjú music, but in the 1980s he developed a sound all of his own, which we called Yo-Pop. A mixture of Jùjú, Funk, Reggae, Afrobeat and Jazz, its vibrant melange can be heard on his 1986 record 'Ojo Je', where both these originals are taken from. Here, Gomori takes the uplifting 'Atewo-Lara Ka Tepa Mo'se' for an extended hypnotic, tribal trip ready for the blend. On the flip, SMBD delivers two superb chops of the title track — a gritty Funk-fuelled 'Disco' version with live bass, and a deliciously deep dub-house version. 

The stunning artwork was penned by Kofi Ankobra, who grew up in Ghana and studied art at Oshogbo, Nigeria — the place Adewale himself was born.

Today marks a special moment in Bolting Bits history for us. We are now lucky enough to premiere a track from our very own - Igor Bezuglov! For those that do not know, Igor is one of the major pieces that keep our music blog running behind the scenes. But being a man of many talents, he has been working on his own productions the past few months to deliver us his first tune under his alias @igorbmusic.

Titled Ponteio (which means "bridge" in Portuguese), this song is the A-side of Igor's debut record Águas de Setembro that is set to come out on Peter Croce and Moonlighter's Detroit imprint Rocksteady Disco later this month. Throughout the piece, Igor utilizes the Brazilian original's rolling bassline, impromptu instrumentation, and bittersweet vocals to capture what everyone's feeling this time of year. Although many of us understand that cold months lay ahead, we are also eager to keep the good times going no matter what - and it's this palpable optimism that makes the song the perfect soundtrack as we transition from summer into autumn across the northern hemisphere.
