The group began as teenagers recording doo-wop recordings in the 1950s, and had an early hit in “Shout!” in 1959. A young Jimi Hendrix played lead guitar for the group during the early 60s before breaking away to start his own project. They signed with Motown in 1965, leaving a few years later to pursue a more funk and soul oriented sound.

In 1973 the group incorporated two of their younger brothers and brother-in-law Chris Jasper, additions which would define the direction of the songwriting for the next decade, characterized by a shift away from acoustic arrangement and increased use of synthesizers and modern production techniques. The group split in 1983, with the original three brothers continuing to tour and record under the Isley Brothers name and three younger members forming Isley-Jasper-Isley. Though their success dwindled in the late 80s, their reputation continued to grow due to a new generation of hip hop producers who found their songs rich in sampling potential. The surviving members continue to record albums and play live shows to this day.

Lost in a Sea of Trees tells the tale of a lone traveller who enters a dark, ancient forest. Lured deep into the woods by something not of this world as he enters uncharted grounds. Step by step his journey is getting darker as he encounters strange phenomena and beings among the trees.

This mix was inspired by Reggae and Jazz that you can shake a leg to in the dance. I was blown away by seeing Anderson .Paak perform last year in Finsbury Park, and love Kaytranada's sound. There's also some other big inspirations of mine in there including Azymuth, Parliament, and Herbie Hancock among others. I'm really feeling all of K15's productions, especially his new EP on Eglo Records, so I had to get a track of his in there!

Future Classics & Forgotten Treasures — Selections for the Adventurous Music Listener (Founded in 2007 by Lexis)

Manki and Stieb are two friends from Bucharest who discovered early on that they have a passion for music, be it the listening, the digging or the playing, and they enjoy playing it together. Raised with Dark Metal in the '90s and opening afterwards towards a variety of genres, such as Breakbeat, Drum & bass, Dub, Trip Hop, Acid Jazz, Hip Hop, Disco, Funk, they started playing at local clubs and festivals in 2006 with a mix of Funk and Breakbeat. They were later irreversibly transformed by Indie Dance and eventually settled on a little bit of everything: Dark Disco, Synth Pop, Coldwave, Balearic, Electro, Soulful House, Deep House, Tech House, Techno, Minimal, plus some of the old influences. 

They are in awe at the sheer quantity of good music being produced out there these days, but also pay a tribute to all musicians who have enlightened the past, as well as the present, with their creations. It is a pleasure and a privilege to dig through all the music out there, find their gems, mix them together and share them with other people.
