An electronic music duo from Macedonia, currently based in Skopje. The name Binary Thoughts may speak for itself, but there is a much deeper meaning embedded within.

The ancestral way of thinking has always been 'binary'. To understand nature and all its phenomena, we made a world of oppositions (day/night, sun/moon, male/female). Where the law of "all or nothing” rules, there is no in-between. But the reality is indeed always more complex and more interconnected than what our 'perception' of the world suggests.

This perception beyond this “all or nothing” connected Ana Bogatinovska and Jovana Gjorgievska. At first strangers to each other, they met at a music festival in their native country; And after a long discussion about electronic music, they've decided to do a project that will connect their somewhat different but similar taste in electronic music.

Their melancholic, delicate and hypnotic sounds use 'binary thinking' as a motor to press on to a third term or a higher category that represents a transcending reconciliation or unity: where thesis and antithesis are always harnessed to yield a synthesis. Where seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary: Yin and Yang.

Currently, they are exploring the vast horizons of deep and hypnotic soundscapes, intending to create their unique blend of creativity to start releasing their music.

With the last rays of summer sending us into the new season we are pleased to guide you back into the clubs. For this occasion we invited the Macedonian duo Binary Thoughts to deliver the 60th episode of our series.

As their name might already suggest, Binary Thoughts draws a big part of their inspiration from a binary way of thinking, which makes them appreciate the oppositions in our world. With this approach they manage to entangle their somewhat different, yet similar taste in electronic music and present the listener an interesting sonic journey.

REACT Podcast No. 105 comes from the representative of the new wave at Croatian electronic music scene - Pusmus! With her mysterious, dirty, hard, but also bouncy sets, she loves to spice up the atmosphere with deep basslines and psy-trance sounds. She is known for not leaving you indifferent from set to set, and besides making your shoes dance to her beats, she will (enthuse) you with her finesse in fast and strong transitions and pumping chaos in every space. She founded the popular Croatian Technokracija collective and organization that takes ravers to the most hidden places and dark clubs, which she fills with lively notes and leads to ecstasy. She started taking mixing and partying seriously in 2021 when she picked up her first players and started making havoc.

Sugar Lobby is a passionate Techno DJane from Belgrade. Her unique style of mixing is a result of accumulated  experience trough her presence in the clubbing scene for over ten years. This led into her witnessing and living through many changes in Belgrade's and Europe's underground scene. Her releases can be found on labels like Organism and Lunar with fresh stuff coming up in the near future. Her sets are mystic, energetic and percussive, inspired by sound from labels like Illegal Alien Records,, Token, Modularz or Tresor label. If you ask anyone in the music industry how they started their sonic journey of discovery, many will cite the radio or a certain DJ or band. For Jonas Kopp, that magical moment occurred as he began his teenage years with a piece of music that would shape his life: Kraftwerk’s seminal album, Trans Europa Express. “From that moment nothing was the same.” he recalls. “My father had seen I was interested in music and bought me a turntable and some vinyl.” Gaining all the skills needed to be a DJ, he burst on to the scene in the mid ’00s working as a resident DJ at a local radio station in his hometown of Buenos Aires. Aged 19, as Area 64, he had already made his first full length CD. 

Influenced initially by the tough house rhythms of New York, he soon widened his palette with the pioneers of Detroit and Chicago also informing his style; a comfortable place straddling House and Techno. 2006 marked his official debut release, a rousing EP on Pfirter’s MindTrip Music, and from that point, he has become one of the most versatile and recognised multifaceted performers in the underground scene, combining dizzying 3 deck genre hopping DJing with a more techno-orientated live show which he unveiled at the World’s most well-known Techno institution: “It was a very special gig for me.” He says, “My first time ever in Berlin and I had to play live on the Ben Klock Berghain 04 compilation!” 

Now relocated to Europe, Jonas continues to grow as an artist, jetting off around the globe every weekend. Signed to the impressive Tresor Records among a long list of others, he released his album ’Photon Belt’ this year - a follow up to the 2014 ‘Beyond The Hypnosis’ long player. Recalling another pivotal moment in his career, he remembers a live PA for French promoters, Concrete: “During my Beyond the Hypnosis tour, I had to play before Surgeon. It was humbling having him was behind me listening and enjoying the set, I will never forget the experience.” Multitalented, Jonas has two aliases focusing on House (Untidy) and Ambient (Telluric Lines) as well as running his new label Tremsix.

As a deeply spiritual man, Jonas believes his music can bring people together on a higher level: connected through art. “I know my mission in this life is give service and help to make people awake-aware through my gift.” He also plans to give back to the scene by acting as a mentor to new artists. Viewing music as a form of therapy is close to Jonas’ heart and sees his ambient project - Telluric Lines - could be performed in non-club environments such as museums, galleries and beyond. Drawing people together under the umbrella of hope.

Binary Thoughts is electronic music duo from Kumanovo, Macedonia. At first strangers to each other Jovana and Ana met at a music festival in their native country and after a long discussion about electronic music, they've decided to make a project that will connect their slightly different but similar taste in electronic music. They have performed at various nightclubs throughout Macedonia and have gained an international exposure with their podcasts for Erfunden, Error Sessions, Lett Records, R.P.W.C.S. and many more. They became part of Tenebrous Music Label in late 2016. In summer 2017 they had their first gigs abroad and they became part of Dev9t Festival in Belgrade, Serbia and Visions of Beyond in Prishtina, Kosovo.
