Frank Dorrey, aka DORIS, is a Haitian-American multimedia artist, rapper, producer, and DJ from Linden, New Jersey. Whether crafting eye-popping, hyper-colourful pop art illustrations and digital collages on a smartphone app or eclectic sample-based dance rap records, his angular creative output offers a prismatic window into the small tender moments that make up the fabric of everyday life. Influenced by Dean Blunt, DJ Taj, Sugar Hill Gang, reality TV, Disney movies, kompa, disco, Southern rap, sadboy rock, viral Tiktoks and classic soul music, he’s an artist who draws from everywhere and could make anything.

Effortlessly vibe-driven, Frank’s contribution to our new mix series feels like the soundtrack to a late afternoon cruise from Jersey to New York. As he cycles through a glorious sequence of hazy, club-tempo RnB remixes, percussive disco house tracks, and psychedelic bossa nova numbers, it’s easy to imagine starting the evening at an art exhibition openings in Manhattan before finishing up with a warehouse rave somewhere in Brooklyn.

Last March, the California-bred artist Eera, also known as a founding member of the influential New York crew Surf Gang, also known as a producer who has laced tracks for everyone from Bladee to Babyxsosa, Rich The Kid to Black Kray—did a DJ set as part of Nina Night at the New York club Nowadays. Eera’s session for Nina highlights the same tracklist that he played at the club. It’s a washy melding of rave, rap, ambient, techno, and club; it makes sonic connections, and it makes us excited about the future of both the producer and the wider community from which he incubated.
