Brazilian label favourite Felipe Novaes returns to Sprout, and this time brings some friends along with him to the party. Novaes always pushes tasty peak time drivers and always makes a welcome return to the imprint.

First up Gai Barone and Felipe deliver 'daybreak' a bouncing and warm melodic smile inducer, with its blippy melody and feel good chord progressions, this is an instant winner! Its no wonder Gai has had an impressive year with his music gracing Balance, Lost & Found And Selador to name just a few.

And then Felipe joins up with fellow Sprout fave DaBeat. With 'Cephei' they deliver a wonderful emotive end of night gem, brimming with feel good vibes, as this superb and subtle gem really works a treat!

After an incredible year from which Meanwhile continued to release a panoply of stellar music, GMJ & Matter’s imprint begins 2022 in scintillating fashion. Now, with a quarter century of releases under its belt, Matter returns to the label with his second original EP in the shape of the 3-track, “Banksia”.

After an incredible 2021, culminating with the November release of his debut “Starchild” album on Meanwhile Horizons, numerous collaborations with production partner in crime, GMJ, and over 1 million Spotify streams, the Melbourne based DJ and producer begins the year with a musical vignette of the highest quality.

Opening proceedings, the title track is a glorious piece of trademark progressive house from the Matter production studio. As mesmerising as it is powerful, an immaculately syncopated percussive and melodic groove combine in joyous harmony as a repeated motif waxes and wanes with filtered ease, backed by thumping beat and rumbling bassline. Huge white-noise swells herald new sonic phases as “Banksia” builds to a powerful crescendo post-breakdown in a spine-tingling second half.

Continuing the deep rolling groove of its predecessor, a seismic kick and head-shaking bass pattern form the foundations for “Burnout”. A trademark swathe of filtered synth motifs soon come to the fore amongst waves of gently pulsing white-noise risers, before an Underworld-esque breakdown of bassline prowess and hands-in-the-air synths explode into a third movement. Containing all the characteristics for a club-friendly stormer, “Burnout” is sure to fill festival floors over the antipodean summer.

The third track sees “Magic Rooms” complete the triptych with its shimmering arp and swung hi-hats. Working together in perfect synchronicity, a bassline sequence adds subtle urgency and low-end power before an evolving suite of synth elements combines in a magical symphony of sound that rises and falls in counterpoint glory. A characteristic bevy of reverb-soaked white-noise effects add to the sonic dynamism as the track opens up post-breakdown into a stunning arrangement of production know-how and sonic mastery.

A career that continues to blossom with each successive release, “Banksia” finds Matter coming into bloom once again with an iridescent pattern of musical verve.

Continuing a strong start to the year, the latest offering from Another Life Music finds label boss Bynomic returning for a new EP. The Swiss artist continued to flex his progressive music powers across 2021, with a release schedule that was not only prolific but replete with quality productions. 3rd Avenue, Dopamine White, Droid9, Future Avenue and Shambhala Music served as landing spots for Bynomic's groovy melodic sound as he continued to evolve as an artist. 2022 has seen Bynomic already return to Madloch's 3rd Avenue with 'Past Oblivion', a track that has seen success across the winter season. Now as February reaches it's halfway point, the Zurich resident returns to his comfortable home of Another Life Music with the much anticipated 'Amethyst'. 

The release begins with the heady vibes of the title selection ‘Amethyst’. Something Bynomic has excelled at is finding a good balance between groove and melody. This is another fine example of that with a myriad of compelling arps layering a robust foundation and striking percussive arrangements. These juxtaposed elements also balance colour really well, moving top to bottom from dark to light with relative ease, before unleashing an onslaught of effects during a trippy apex.

The second selection ‘Smaragd’ follows a similar sonic ethos to its predecessor and resonates on an equally impressive level. Remarkably well crafted, its full, well-shaped bass line commands attention, moving through rolling contours and rhythmic pulses, while spacious percussion and delicate arps add further spice to the groove. Placid pads and ethereal phrasing rise across the first act, creating a surreal sonic environment as the break unfolds, and ultimately foreshadowing a final movement that is both emotional and otherworldly.

The release concludes with ‘Turmalin’ which should strike a chord with many for it's retro sensibilities. Marrying nostalgic themes, Bynomic layers rolling rhythmic structures with flickering percussion and trance-inducing arps. It’s a tranquil yet highly engaging storyboard, one which takes fluidity to newfound levels across the main break, while the symphonic subtleties command your attention onwards to a mesmerizing finale. An inspired creation from Bynomic, who has presented some of his most ambitious work to date with the 'Amethyst' collection, a three-track showcase which is bound to be a discography stand out at years end. Highly recommended.
