Nikko.Z's Dopamine White continues a strong start to the year by welcoming Nacho Ross to the label for his debut EP. Argentinean artist Nacho Ross began his journey into electronic music at the age of sixteen, taking inspiration from the likes of Dusty Kid, Plastikman and The Chemical Brothers. The world of music production followed shortly thereafter as the Buenos Aires resident developed his own progressive minded sound. Now known for his atmospheric harmonic progressions, edgy synths and complex rhythmic patterns, Nacho has compiled a short but tidy discography across the last eight years, already finding a home on Julian Rodriguez's Massive Harmony Records. Now, adding Dopamine White to his resume, Nacho debuts on the label with a three-track showcase entitled 'Brave Enough'. 

Beginning with 'Brave Enough' Nacho aims squarely at a peak time dance floor with one of most engaging productions to date. Backed by punchy beats and a warm, rolling groove it's got infectious energy from the outset. Its powerful drive is encased in a perfect balance of electric rhythms, finely tuned percussion and dystopian atmospheres. Retro arps and phasing textures gently elevate mood while bringing greater emotional depth as the main break approaches. Murky atmospheres and muted chord stabs rise across the interlude, flowing through percolating arps, tactfully building tension as the groove drops for a prophetic finale.

Moving on to selection two, the journey continues with the deep, chugging vibes of 'You Just Dare'. Immediately captivating, its muscular bassline, dark undertones and shapeshifting effects make for a groovy first act. Rolling percussion and pensive overlays play off the well carved low end, making for an irresistible, hip swinging rhythm leading into the break. Swirling effects and melodic fragments create a tense canopy of sound as the centrepiece evolves, building anticipation towards a thumping final movement.

The release concludes in fine fashion with the hypnotic qualities of 'Temptation'. Beginning with perfectly sculpted beats and buzzing rhythms it's a production that's compelling from the start. Clattering percussive arrangements and collapsing waves of light slowly encase the framework, as the low end moves through rolling contours and mountainous undulation. Building to a feverish pitch, it's a retro-arp which proves most striking, adding further depth and drama throughout a spine-tingling apex. Energetic and tense in equal measure, it rounds out what is an inspired EP from Nacho Ross, an artist who continues to rise up through the progressive house landscape as 2023 begins to take shape.

'Sisko Electrofanatik's Gain Records welcomes a dark and acidic, peak time techno release from Roberto Pagliaccia which also includes a remix by Alberto Remondini.

Based in Italy, Roberto Pagliaccia is back on Gain Records with his 5th release on the imprint and it features two of his enthralling techno tracks with enrapturing synths and brooding intensity.

On remix duty, Alberto Remondini is an Italian artist who has been making waves with tracks released via labels ranging from Black Hole Recordings to Mauro Picotto's classically revered record label, Alchemy.

"Without You" opens the release with the compelling tones of its namesake vocal sample, which is underpinned by an acid lead synth, high-velocity percussion and a rumbling bassline.

Alberto Remondini's remix of Without You reduces the acid and chunks up the percussion to deliver a hard-hitting version with a tantalising breakdown that ramps up the tension before the drums slam back in.

"Hold Up" is the second of the original tracks and it closes out the release with its thrashing high-end percussion and hypnotic vocals that are fused with explosive elements and a pulsating bassline.'

Ian Carpenter returns to Balance Music with an outstanding new 3 track EP. The Padova based artist has thus consistently found himself at the vanguard of modern techno in its myriad guises over several years – from taking part in 2015’s Burn Residency contest as best Italian DJ to being recognised again for his talents in 2020 by BillBoard Italia. Forging new frontiers with impressive consistency, the Italian artist has presided over a production career that has seen a clutch of high-profile releases since a 2017 debut for Trip Records. Further work for the label has followed, not least on the “In Your Mind”, “Sahara” and “Renovatio” EPs between 2018 and 2020. Moreover, a collaboration with Philipp Straub saw another career highlight in early 2020 as the duo released their “Theia EP” on John Digweed’s Bedrock.

Bringing his unique blend of melodic house & techno to Balance Music in late 2021, the “Aeternum” EP was another chance to join forces with Straub on the rasping “Cosmo”, while the silky “Fire Comet” showcased his solo skills.

Now returning with three further solo pieces, the title track ‘Machine' is a driving powerhouse of chest-thumping kick and fizzing hi-hat percussion, while an array of synth motifs bounce off each other in scintillating sonic patterns. Arpeggios blend with rasping analogue motifs, held together by a sub-bassline and a radiating dynamic energy that picks up the pace in the final stages after a glorious breakdown crescendo.

'Flags' immediately impresses with its rolling kick drum pattern and cascading arpeggios. A sharp synth lead then takes over as it sits within the rhythmic structure in its immaculately cadenced pattern. Rising and falling with ease through open-filtered brio, the mesmerising synth phrasing creates a dramatic sonic tension that is a joy to behold in 7-minutes of club-friendly magic. The bouncing bassline groove of final track, 'Hubble', creates a subtle mystery and melancholy. A laser-edge analogue synth cuts through the mix with ease as snare rolls pan gently across the stereo spectrum to give width and rhythmic interest. Imaginatively produced, the second half sees a chorus of sounds shine in a shifting environment of beatless phrases and stripped back hi-hat / snare combinations.

A welcome return to Balance Music sees Ian Carpenter in full control of the “Machine”.
