Continuing a strong spring season, Madloch's Sound Avenue welcomes Secretly Famous back to the label for their first EP. Hailing from Australia, the Secretly Famous production duo first emerged in 2021 on the strength of early productions such as ‘Chimera' and ‘On Fire'. Noted for their ability to marry traditional and contemporary progressive sounds, the Secretly Famous duo was quickly tipped as a production team to watch going forward. The next three calendar years would see the Aussie duo continue to refine their sound, resulting in an aesthetic that was both groovy and melodic. Secretly Famous began their creative partnership with Sound Avenue in 2022 with a well-received debut via label affiliate Future Avenue, a two-track EP which would go on to yield twenty-two appearances across the Belgian conglomerate's label collective, with their lone Sound Avenue appearance coming a year ago with a remix of ‘One Word' by Estonian duo about : river. Now, following their latest 3rd Avenue vehicle ‘Firebullet Phoenix' to begin the year, Secretly Famous return to Sound Avenue for their first EP project ‘Yeon', alongside remixes from Poli Siufi, Mind of Us and Rockka.

Dutch producers Koen and Gijs, aka Callecat, present the hotly anticipated Symbiosis album, released 12th April on Manual Music. Every collaboration is equally as brilliant as the previous, taking you on a blissed-out journey with some of the best producers in electronic music.

Callecat themselves are very much a symbiotic relationship. Koen is more the DJ and Gijs the producer in this union, though both very capable in each field. Their shared sense of humor adds a playful twist to their productions. Their fun loving and light-hearted approach in their Utrecht studio helps bring you some of the best progressive electronic music around.

Callecat feel that making and experiencing music is even more special when you attract other people in it. This inspired them to make this album the way it was made together… In symbiosis: “the interaction between two or more different organisms, to the advantage of both”.

The first track, The Intro sets the scene perfectly for the album and for the dreamy Embracing Nature with Gustin, who brought a beautiful Balearic feel with him from Ibiza. This leads you into The Balance of Being with Bodai, whose organic production style warm vocal tones send you into serenity. Juliane Wolf’s beautiful melodies on Journey of Species seamlessly combine with a compelling danceability and Nick Varon adds deep and groovy melodic twist to Beyond Perceptions.

Hobin Rude’s deep, dark driving vibe resonates from the depths on Infinite Enclosure and Meeting Molly brings the groove and atmosphere on Unified Formulas. Not Demure’s fantastic lead sound shines on Recurring Phases and Paul Hazendonk (head honcho of Manual Music) has an incredible instinct for what makes a dancefloor groove, on State of Mind.

The Wash incorporates the mesmerizing arpeggio to Symbiotic Symphony. Fabri Lopez enriches Mutual Horizons with cool quirky sounds and a beautiful arrangement. Forty Cats’ beautiful melodic moments bring subtle atmospheres to Interconnecting Echoes without it losing Callecat’s edginess.

Around Us are good friends and repeat collaborators with Callecat, their infinite creativity shining through on In Unity We Thrive. By the time The Outro has finished, you will want to put the album back to the start and hear the whole brilliant release again. In fact, the first notes on The Intro match perfectly with the last notes from The Outro, enabling you to loop the album seamlessly. With Symbiosis, Callecat bring you music for the soul that will guide you through 2024. Secret Feelings opens the month of April with a new single from label boss JFR. Hailing from Argentina but currently calling Spain home, Juan Franco Rivero aka JFR has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of progressive and organic house, resulting in a string of uniquely crafted records that present a resonant worldly sound. Enjoying a steady rise since emerging 2017, it was 2021 which proved to be a breakout year for JFR, as the Argentine continued his upward trajectory with a standout release for UK behemoth Anjunadeep; a project which would lead to offerings via Clubsonica and Musique de Lune across the next calendar year, and in turn garnering support from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sebastian Leger. 2023 would also bring newfound success for JFR, launching his Secret Feelings imprint in September with 'Anatonic', before ending the year with the critically acclaimed five-track showcase '21 Angels'. With January's 'The Last Queen' and February's 'Gocru' landing as JFR's first projects of 2024, the Barcelona resident continues to build his Secret Feeling imprint with a new single entitled 'Morning Feelings', alongside remixes from Mayro, Mauro Augugliaro and Gux Jimenez.

Beginning with the Original Mix, JFR manages to find a perfect balance between progressive and organic house. From it's swing heavy groove to panoramic arps and cross-cultural style themes there is a lot to like across it's seven-minute running time, but it's ultimately a great sense of flow and two very well-crafted breaks which make it such a great dancefloor track. The finer details also shine with a chanting style vocal stab and percolating acid line sitting gently below the surface adding further depth, charm and rhythm to what is an already stellar groove.

The first remix comes from Mauro Augugliaro who makes his label debut following remixes for AMITABHA and Stripped Digital. The Cordoba resident takes more of a pure progressive approach and extends the running time to a massive ten minutes, which makes for a very enjoyable listen. The main themes translate quite well and with a greater emphasis on percussion and overall atmospheric depth there are a lot of amazing moments locked inside, not the least of which is an expansive break with a nostalgic, pixie-like vibe to carry the track to an emotive finish.

Next up Mayro makes his label debut with a darker more stripped down take on the track which complements the previous two versions quite nicely. The Buenos Aires resident and Traful label boss goes for a groove-centric approach, while utilizing the main arp and a wide array of ominous effects for a what amounts to a foreboding journey into the depths of darker progressive house. The break, while somewhat sparse creates an amazing atmosphere through cinematic style pads and a subtle but highly tense build, one which precedes a stomping finale quite well.

Rounding out the release is Gux Jimenez who makes his label debut following excellent projects for aboriginal and Univack. The Colombian artist is well known for his melodic style of progressive house and it works amazing well with JFR's well crafted parts. Recently played by Nick Warren, Gux brings a backbone of tough kick drums and rolling rhythms to create a perfect foundation for a forest of ultrasonic effects and fuzzed out melodies for the ultimate energy-inducing rush to round out the release on a feel good note. Highly recommended.

Cid Inc’s Replug Records opens their 2024 season by welcoming Dmitry Molosh back to the label for a new EP.

Based in Belarus, Dmitry Molosh has been at the cutting edge of electronic music for the better part of a decade. Comparable to the path of his contemporaries, Dmitry has found a way to successfully marry classic and contemporary progressive house, resulting in an aesthetic that is not only club-effective but also dramatic and emotive. 

Rounding out the release are the hypnotic qualities of ‘Sail’, a track where Dmitry balances the loud-soft dynamics which seem to work so well on the dancefloor. Superficially, it might come across as a classic chunk of Molosh bombast, but it exists in a different sonic world, as multiple layers of rebounding rhythms, stirring chord changes and arpeggiated sequences get woven around a core of beefy grooves and cleverly coaxed atmospheric swells. The break’s beginnings hold that strong cadence, eventually melting down to a shapeshifting narrative, one where hyperbolic arps deliver a finale that is both wonderfully warped and incredibly groovy. A fitting conclusion to what is another unique look into Dmitry’s repertoire, and the infectious progressive sound he has built his career on.
