Great interview — thank you, both. I'd like it to have covered more on uploading / monetizing copyrighted music on SoundCloud though, given Jules's legal background, for example the uploading of DJ sets, bootlegs, etc. As far as I'm aware SoundCloud doesn't permit this (unless the uploader can evidence express permission from the individual rights holders obviously), but it still seems to go on in a big way on SoundCloud (despite takedowns I'm sure). I use Mixcloud for DJ sets for this reason, and SoundCloud for my own tracks, even though Mixcloud now has a "Tracks" option too — in that sense I'd say there IS an alternative to SoundCloud. Rights holders are compensated on Mixcloud and it's legal (T&Cs apply obvs). I'd love to be able to legally upload my DJ sets AND my own tracks to SoundCloud (much larger user base), as in electronic music they often do go hand-in-hand in terms of giving a full picture of an artist. Is SoundCloud missing a trick here? Or perhaps I am?
